H Allen Gilman of Strawberry Hill Road finished his season with the Shamrocks who ended as runners up in the Lexington softball league. Seaman T Francis Coyne of Main Street has completed a seven day leave from U S Navy duties at Newport and will be assigned to the fleet on return. Concord Lions Club Hosts Bi Monthly Session

The Concord Lions Club held its 25th bi monthly meeting at the Old Mill Dam Tea Room on September 9 with over 25 members and guests. President Roth N MacRae presided and guests were introduced. Mr and Mrs Larry Slater of Chicago were honored with presents. Slater is Lions International representative and organizer of the Concord club last fall. Next meeting set for September 22 with plans for a ladies night forthcoming.

Concord Woman Becomes Ensign in Navy Women’s Unit

Miss Mary C. Bigelow of Concord, 33, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Bigelow, becomes the first Concord woman sworn into the WAIVES unit of the U S Navy. She reports for duty as an Ensign at Northhampton to train at Smith College. She previously belonged to M.W.D. Co. and has been active locally.

Concord native Jimmy Cullinan to join Pittsburgh Pirates

Concord’s Jimmy Cullinan, former Concord high baseball captain, sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates after two seasons with the Albany Senators. The 23 year old infielder played third base or shortstop and is expected to debut in major league action after two strong seasons in the minors. He previously belonged to the Boston Braves system and is the son of Mr and Mrs John Cullinane of 13 Grant Street Pending possible military service, he may join the Buccaneers in spring.

Three Day Youth Rally Unites Northern New England Youth

Concord Many hosts United Young People’s Societies weekend event at Evangelical Free Church. Attendees from Portland Boston Concord and nearby towns joined a Saturday supper opening and Monday close. Concord barn blaze destroys Eldridge farm buildings

Fire at Thomas L. Eldridge’s Fitchburg Turnpike property in Concord destroyed a large barn and about 100 tons of hay. Fifteen to twenty cattle and one horse died or escaped. Fire Chief Harry B. Tuttle led an investigation amid limited water supply and widespread damage to farm equipment and nearby out-buildings. Insurance believed to cover the loss.
