Igor Sikorsky pursues helicopter development with a Detroit factory producing parts for a war era air machine. The craft, nicknamed the alligator by Roebling, is tested for naval use and landings from ships, with the aim of rapid deployment and heavy loads.

H Allen Gilman of Strawberry Hill Road finished his season with the Shamrocks who ended as runners up in the Lexington softball league. Seaman T Francis Coyne of Main Street has completed a seven day leave from U S Navy duties at Newport and will be assigned to the fleet on return. The family of G Sherman Blair of Verett Street has returned to Concord after a summer vacation at the beach.
Sergt Anthony Joseph Pagano on Bedford Street has been visiting his parents and friends while on leave from his army duties.
The Concord art association at 15 Lexington road wraps up after a seven week display featuring an aircraft exhibit and photograph collection on Wednesday September 15.

Dr and Mrs Alvard Newton MacRae of Kirksville Missouri announce the birth of a daughter Patricia Elaine born August 28. Dr John Dennis Sheehan of 656 Lexington Road spent the weekend with his wife and son Jackie on furlough from his army duties. He is now a captain in the U S Army and was recently transferred to Rhode Island from Niantic Connecticut.
Daniel B Bartolomeo son of Mr and Mrs John Bartolmeo returns to Indiana Tech to resume studies as a Junior in the college program.
Judge Howard A. Wilson resumed duties at the Concord district Court after summer vacation. He is now in his 12th year as presiding justice at the Central Middlesex court.
Laurence Terry, headmaster of Middlesex, has returned to Concord as the private school plans to open its fall semester on Wednesday September 23.
Word arrives that John Cook formerly of Concord High School now resides in Lincoln and has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He is stationed at a western base.
The Concord Council Knights of Columbus will stage a benefit penny sale at Monument Hall on Wednesday September 23 at 8 PM. Proceeds fund Christmas presents for members in service with a grand prize and many prizes offered. Assisting Grand Knight Rudolph W Currier are Thomas J Burke James P Sheehan John B Coyne and others. The council lists 18 members in service including Captain John A Hutchinson Sergt Maurice L Dee Ensign Richard J Loughlin Seaman William F Erisman and more.
The Concord Lions Club held its 25th bi monthly meeting at the Old Mill Dam Tea Room on September 9 with over 25 members and guests. President Roth N MacRae presided and guests were introduced. Mr and Mrs Larry Slater of Chicago were honored with presents. Slater is Lions International representative and organizer of the Concord club last fall. Next meeting set for September 22 with plans for a ladies night forthcoming.
Miss Mary C. Bigelow of Concord, 33, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Bigelow, becomes the first Concord woman sworn into the WAIVES unit of the U S Navy. She reports for duty as an Ensign at Northhampton to train at Smith College. She previously belonged to M.W.D. Co. and has been active locally.

Mrs Rosalie L Lowden of 41 Hubbard Street celebrated her 88th birthday on Monday September 7 in Concord. She is mother of Town Clerk Elsie E Rose and remains in good health able to crochet and embroider as relatives and friends called to honour her.
Miss Mary R. Sheehan and Lawrence J. Kenney were married at St. Julia's Church Weston in a nuptial mass. Rev Fr John Dowd officiated with bridesmaids Catherine and Dorothy Sheehan. Best man Philip F. Kenney. ushers were John J Jr., Philip, and Joseph Kenney. They hosted a breakfast at Wellesley Inn, plan a Washington trip, and will reside at 85 Virginia Road Concord. Mrs Kenney is Newton High School alumna. Mr Kenney, Concord High School alum, works in market gardening with his brothers.
Concord’s Jimmy Cullinan, former Concord high baseball captain, sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates after two seasons with the Albany Senators. The 23 year old infielder played third base or shortstop and is expected to debut in major league action after two strong seasons in the minors. He previously belonged to the Boston Braves system and is the son of Mr and Mrs John Cullinane of 13 Grant Street Pending possible military service, he may join the Buccaneers in spring.
Voters in Concord will cast ballots from 12 noon to 7 30 PM on September 15 for the state primaries. West Concord voters use the Harvey Wheeler School while Precinct One votes at the Veterans Building.

The Concord softball league playoff pits the Depot and the Benedicts in a best three of five series after split opening games at Emerson playground. Depot won 11 8 in game one with Bill LaHiff pitching. the Benedicts claimed game two 10 9 behind Hank Strayton and Tim Diskum.
The Annual West Concord Woman's Club Rumage Sale runs September 10 and 11 from 10 AM to 5 PM at the store adjoining Adams and Bridges in West Concord. Proceeds will support club activities.
The marriage of Miss Marjorie Virginia O'Brien of 70 Monument Street and Robert J. Lawrence of 6 Crest Street West Concord was solemnized recently. The couple plan to reside in Concord and he will report for army duty on September 15.
Concord Many hosts United Young People’s Societies weekend event at Evangelical Free Church. Attendees from Portland Boston Concord and nearby towns joined a Saturday supper opening and Monday close. Services by Rev A C Andersen and Stanley Haugh, with photos by Rothwell MacRae. A hike led by Bud Bulger marked the holiday. Luncheon at 12:30 and a 1 pm business meeting followed, ending at 3:30 pm with Y P S members assisting Rev Harry Odland.
Concord High School coach Bernie Megin trains about 40 players at Emerson Playground over 10 days to ready for the September 26 opener with Prichard at Person Playground. Co captains Charlie Dee and Richie O Neil lead veterans. transportation and schedule issues arise due to war and travel limits.

Fire at Thomas L. Eldridge’s Fitchburg Turnpike property in Concord destroyed a large barn and about 100 tons of hay. Fifteen to twenty cattle and one horse died or escaped. Fire Chief Harry B. Tuttle led an investigation amid limited water supply and widespread damage to farm equipment and nearby out-buildings. Insurance believed to cover the loss.
Bedford reports a Progressive Honoré Inc event at Page Field on Sunday September 18 starting at 1 p.m. benefiting Bedford service men’s Christmas fund. Committees include Stephen B. Tackney and Charles S. Hume with Mrs. Martin and others handling arrangements and transportation.
