Maynard K of C council won the annual Marlboro golf cup at the Maynard Country Club with a total score of 30 and a half points. Marlboro’s team included Hurley, Lynch, O’Connell, and others, while Maynard’s top players featured Prue, Lawton, and Murphy in a tight match play event. The benefit program drew spectators and a varied list of participants from both councils.

Maynard Public Schools Open With Enrollment Change
The Maynard public schools opened Tuesday September 8 showing 816 pupils in grades 1 12 90 in junior high and 450 in senior high with expectations of more enrollments. Three new teachers Florence Seder Ruth Wilson and Charles Manty join the high school faculty all Maynard natives and a new domestic science teacher Doris Flint joins junior and senior high. A teachers meeting in the auditorium was addressed by Charles H Walker superintendent of schools.

A 25 year old Bowdoin College teacher and student John Kimball Snyder died in Freiberg Germany on August 2. Funeral services were held at Bowdoin College Chapel August 29 with presidents and faculty from Bowdoin Amherst and affiliated colleges in attendance. He was described as modest eager to learn and devoted to truth whose work and character touched students and colleagues across multiple institutions.

Fire Chief Surprised by Neighbor Chiefs at Golden Wedding
Hyde Park fire chief John H. Wetherbee celebrated his golden wedding in Stow last Saturday as 42 city and town fire chiefs gathered to offer congratulations. A parade of ten firetrucks passed his daughter’s home, and he received a $50 gold gift from the district. The couple have two sons, two daughters and nine grandchildren.
