The congressman lauds Roosevelt's New Deal, arguing the NRA aims to fix production and distribution so that no one starves. He says the program creates jobs, spreads work, and builds demand, describing it as a cycle that will expand factory work and employment nationwide.
Mrs. 80 years old, longtime resident, died suddenly Saturday night after a walk with J Morse and Acton. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival by examiner Norman Hudson. A funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 PM at Glenwood Cemetery, with Pastor Jas Shepler officiating.
George Hart 71 longtime Maynard resident died Sunday at Rest Home after a brief illness. He was born in Portsmouth New Hampshire and served in local mills. Survived by two daughters Mrs Albert Meynard and Mrs Flor k Hart of New London. service held at home with Rev Mat Vance. burial at Cemetery. Numerous Floral tributes received.
Miss Florence Louise Fairbairn married Franklin Edward Hartwell Sunday in the rectory of St Bernard's. The bride, a Concord High graduate, wore eel gray satin. bridesmaid Mary Fairbairn carried roses and violets. Best man Clifford Hartwell, groom's Sudbury brother, and the couple plan to reside on Belknap Street after a New York wedding trip.
Blair Cleveland planted his flag just short of the brook at the 19th hole to win the Flag Tournament on the Concord Country Club golf links. Harold Bowers finished near the 18th green with Berkeley Wheeler in a trap at 18th, while other players posted scores or positions around the 17th and 18th greens.
Concord schools start the year with about 1350 students. High school 430, Peter Bulkeley 600, Harvey Wheeler West 420, no new teachers in the faculty. The Concord Yankees baseball team ends its twilight season this evening with a game at Concord Center starting at 6 o clock against the relrose University club.
Miss Edith Frances MacWilliams married Alden Whipple Parker at her parents home 3 Central Street West Concord. The ceremony under hydrangias and cosmos was led by Rev Harland Evans with sister Jessie Bell MacWilliams as bridesmaid and Kenneth D Parker as best man. After a reception for about seventy five guests the couple will reside at Red Acre Farm road South Acton. Both are prominent in Young People circles.
The Concord NRA Committee held a meeting to recognize losses and appoints Elizabeth F. Brennan as Vice Chairman and canvass chair. Alfred W. Stone to draft a condolence letter. Charles L. Foote to lead publicity. list of canvassers read with many local names and postmasters contributing materials and cooperation from state and national headquarters.
Maynard High School opens practice for about fifty aspirants seeking spots on the eleven at Alama Field. Coach Al Lerer must develop a new line and fill gaps at end positions as new players show vigor. The team eyes Garfner on September 16 as the season debut date.

John Anderson, Deputy Superintendent since 1932, forced to retire for health on Sept 1. He lives in Concord after selling his West Concord residence and will relocate to Hubbard Street in Concord. He served in the Spanish American War and held multiple Masonic and veterans roles. Captain Joan Dolan of the 182nd Infantry M N G was director of physical training for six and a half years. Mrs Anderson has long served at the Reformatory in various officer roles.
Miss Hunter became Mrs Burnham in a double service officiated by Rev Albert E Raynolds. The bride wore a white organdy gown with a hat and carried roses and lilies. Uncle Horace N Burbank gave the bride away. Matron of honor wore peach chiffon with turquoise and carried roses. Music by Betty Goodwin and Robert Amendola. The couple, graduates of UNH and a Nashua manufacturer, plan to live in Nashua after a Canada trip.
Littleton defeats South Acton 9 to 1 at Jonesfield on Sunday September 3rd to clinch the league title. Croft pitched strongly allowing only one run as Littleton built an early lead and held on through a pitched battle between Croft and Bradley. Base hits included Cooper D Laigh on and Phillips. Attendance 600, umpires King and Morgan.
Maynard funeral services for Matti Pyrro 27 McKinley Street were held at his home on Saturday at 2 PM. Rev. Wilson Herman of Worcester officiated. Survived by wife Katri Pyrro son William and daughter. Born in Finland he lived here over twenty years and worked at Assabet Mills. Interment Glenwood Cemetery with many floral tributes.
Concord reports a special service at Evangelical Free Church on Saturday at 8 o clock. Rev. B Rierson, former pastor of the Boston Evangelical Free Church and president of the Bible Institute and Academy at Minneapolis, will deliver the address. A quartet of Institute students will sing and play.
Miss Helen Elizabeth Hayes wed Frederick B Jaques at St Bernard’s Concord. Bride’s sister Ethel Jaques and brother Thomas J Hayes attended. couple to reside in Bradford after a wedding trip. The event occurred at St Bernard’s with Rev John A Sears officiating.
South Acton A A of Middlesex County League closed its season at Jones Memorial field in a Sunday game losing the championship to Littleton. Manager Henry Tolman’s son played valiantly and Tolman is praised as a sportsman and civic figure.
The 22nd annual convention of the Norwegian Union Young People societies met at the Evangelical Free Church Langstreet over three days. Rev Olaf M Johnsen welcomed delegates as Paul Gulliksen was elected president with Omdehl as vice president Raiparam as secretary and Esther Anderson as treasurer. The group planned the 1934 Portland gathering. An address by Rev M C Holmes followed an afternoon session led by others and a closing song. Local authorities reported Prof Wilfred Sadler missing amid a chemical inquiry.
An engaging aquatic meet drew a large crowd at the South Bridge Boat House in Concord on Monday afternoon under Arvaur D. Hosmer. Patty Hosmer led the girls, the smallest contestant, but the finals saw Ruth Peterson claim the ORs ast place while several pairs battled through two fall wins and close finishes.
The Maynard and surrounding clubs plan a large outing on September 17 with nineteen clubs participating. Events include skeet and turkey shoots, dog show, horse shoes, and target shooting at venues across Middlesex and neighboring towns.
The Home Owner's Loan Corporation announces a Maynard Framingham branch ready to act on relief applications for owners in Maynard Stow Hudson Sudbury Framingham Wayland Natick Sherborn Hollis Hopkinton Medway Franklin Wrentham Bellingham Ash Marlboro Southboro. Only homeowners within those towns may be served. Information is free at the office located in the Franklin Street building at Park Street.
Mrs Fred Foss and her daughter Dorothy spent Labor Day weekend with Mr and Mrs George Brown in Meriden Connecticut.
Miss Irene Elizabeth Cann, sister of the groom Roy Mann, and Roy Barrie Jr. were in attendance as attendants. The ceremony followed by a buffet served by Lydon Catering Company. Relatives traveled from Acton New York New Hampshire Concord New Brunswick Lowell Chelmsford Carlisle for the nuptials and extended trip through Canada and New York before settling in Carlisle.
