Labor Day Notes From Maynard and Concord News

Schools Open With Record Pupil Attendance and New Classes

On Tuesday the school committee and teachers organized for the year as 550 pupils attended, a record. An additional group of 8 and 5 year olds were housed in the west Main Street building, freeing space for two third grade rooms at the union building. Third to fifth grades are crowded while the high school offers commercial English and classical tracks with no course changes without committee consent. A separate incident reports a Henry F. Miller piano being wrecked by a Fitchburg train, the piano destroyed but the train spared. viewing parts is possible at Charles H. Persons’ piano rooms.
