A list of happenings includes a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Clifford Burr and several residents visiting friends. Births, illnesses, travels and church activities are noted alongside a marriage announcement for Miss Eleonor Hanna and George Van Valen.
Mrs Etta Burt is ill and Lawrence Hadley works as a machinist in Waltham. Dances are planned at Sudbury Town Hall on Halloween night with the Imperial Orchestra providing music. A Columbus Day sale and dinner in the Unitarian church drew a large crowd and a satisfactory net. Miss Asenath Hadley improves at Waltham hospital after scarlet fever scare. Sudbury High School plans a Friday dance at the town hall with the Wal tham Watch factory orchestra five pieces.
On Monday October 16 1871 the Readingham and Lowell railroad began regular trains linking the town with better access. Before that time travel relied on the Fitchburg line south of Sudbury with Thaddeus Moore guiding the stage. The new service opened the town to outsiders and attracted city visitors seeking homes while the Boston and Maine line increased regional accommodation and promise.

Maynard football edged by Fitchburg 2 to 1 at Fitchburg with plans to rebound.

George A Kimball and Ernest Kimball visit Arlington for ancestors graves while Rob bin s auto crowd attends a Lincoln cattle auction.
The McKusicks return to Cambridge for winter and plan a weekend at their summer home Afterglow on Chelmsford road in Bedford. Real estate agent M F Manning sold a Web ber avenue house to a B and M employee. Capt Irving L Waite Mrs Waite and Mr Mrs Victor Hosmer joined a Saturday excursion to North Adams and visited relatives in Bennington Vermont and Cambridge New York. The Union public school closed Friday noon due to diphtheria cases as the local board of health and a state inspector conduct a thorough investigation.
Probable cause factors noted as chicken thefts hit Wedford hen houses. John Henry Brown reports losing 25 pullets and says suspects know his roosts. David L. B. Fitch also had fowl taken. Brown previously lost a hundred hens last fall. A terrier named Roach is missing in Lexington. A local notice offers reward and contact KE. F. Philbrick at Bloomfield Street for details.
Miss Olive King stayed with her parents last week. Crosby's sale in Maynard drew many shoppers. A social dance was held in Association hall Friday. Will and Mrs. Charles visited the Hoosac Tunnel Saturday. Miss Gertrude Rideout of Concord, N H, visited her mother. Invitations went out for a Hallowe'en dance in Association hall Oct. 22. Fred Conant elected captain of Stone school football. Sunlight dance at Association hall Thursday drew over 100 couples. Caledonian club to hold a Hallowe'en social in Maynard Oct. 22. The Main st and Commonwealth ave triangle was shaped with asphalt. A large crowd witnessed the Boston Columbus Day parade, with local marchers joining.
The annual guest night at the home of Mrs. Harriet Loring featured a large turnout and a 4 PM business meeting adding three new members. Mrs. Mary B. Lane was named delegate to the Holyoke State Convention and a Thanksgiving box to the Willard Settlement House was approved. An evening program directed by Mrs. Lane included vocal solos by Miss Clara Leighton and Harold Shepard, readings by Miss Elizabeth Loring and Miss Almira Pickard, two addresses by Rev. Silas N. Adams and Supt. Wells A. Hall, and a demonstration of a splendid tea prepared by Mrs. Abe J. Damon for over 50 guests.
Joseph Appleby and two children spend two weeks in St. John New Brunswick. A saw light dance drew a large crowd in Concord Junction Thursday. Local residents visit Fort Pond and Boston clergy host visitors. Everett Barker heads to Tampa for farming. Bridge Whist club guests in Waltham hosted by Mrs Herbert Smith. Guild of the Unitarian church plans a meeting with Emerson as possible topic. Hanscom Construction Co. wins bridge and comfort station work.
