Better Delivery Plan for Enterprise Subscribers

Concord through cooperation of postmasters at Concord West Concord and Marlborough will improve delivery of the Enterprise. Subscribed paper boxes in Concord and West Concord post offices will get papers on Thursday afternoons and carrier delivery will occur on Fridays.

Two Dog Clinics Friday and Saturday Held by Concord Health

Concords board of health sponsors two dog clinics at the road department garage off Lowell Road and at the West Concord Fire Station. Clinics run Friday from 4 to 5 30 p.m. and Saturday with the same hours. Dogs must be leashed, licensed, and inoculated or restrained as required.

Lincoln Concord Talk Dump Sites

Lincoln and Concord boards of selectmen met to discuss refuse disposal problems. They proposed several solutions and agreed a study would be made. The Concord dump will be eliminated as the new regional school site is developed at the Walden Street area for Carbiste and Concord High School students.

Trailer and truck fires reported in Concord area

Firefighters from Concord and West Concord responded to a trailer fire on Commonwealth Avenue caused by a flooded burner. Damage was slight and the trailer, owned by Frank Waldron, was attended on Monday evening. Central Station later answered a fire on the Concord Turnpike. it was the year’s 276th alarm, with the department handling 209 ambulance calls.

Concord Community Chest Drive Under Way This Week

Concord launches its annual Community Chest campaign with about 400 workers aiming to raise 76000 to fund 10 agencies. The drive runs Oct 19 to Oct 25 with captain report nights on Oct 21, 23, and 25. The Plow Man will visit Concord Library and West Concord Depot grounds to share progress.

Bowling License Hearing Scheduled for Monday Night

Concord selectmen will hold an 8 p.m. hearing at the Town House on Monday to act on a request for a bowling alley license by Chester D Smethurst of Fairhaven Road. Smethurst intends to operate a bowling alley and later build a building off Sudbury Road opposite Grant Street.

Concord Fire Calls Reported for Week

Concord fire department logged multiple calls from October 6 through October 12 including ambulance assists, vehicle fires, false alarms, an underground explosion, washing machine fire, dump fire, and a mutual aid ambulance. Resident Thomas F. Meehan, 58 Union Turnpike, West Concord, is recovering from a broken right arm from a recent fall.

William J. Smith of 2 Wilson Read was named assistant treasurer of Stowe-Woodward Inc a rubber and plastic roll maker with plants in Newton River Falls Neenah Wisconsin and Griffin Georgia He will hold both assistant treasurer and controller duties a role he has filled since 1955 Smith attended the University of Kansas and Northwestern University and has worked in industry since 1934 He is active in the Boy Scouts Sunday School and church work His eldest son Wayne is a naval cadet at the U S Naval Academy and his other children Craig and Janet Leo attend Concord schools.
