An informal ceremony revived organized school savings in Concord after a five year war lapse. Bank book No 1 was given to Janice Learmonth a West Concord sixth grader in Miss Gertrude Nealon's class. Julian W Ballou Middlesex Institution for Savings treasurer presented the book in front of classmates and Principal James V McMullen. Ballou expressed pleasure and hoped students would profit from the system. Janice serves as a teller for the new program with 66.2 percent of pupils enrolled and deposits totaling a reported amount.
The Parents Group will sponsor an open meeting at 8 15 p m next Wednesday October 20 in the Wells A Hall Auditorium at the high School to discuss the committee report. Four committee members will attend and take part in a Q A session after opening remarks. New ideas are welcome as the group prepares for a December town meeting proposing the best possible plans.
Concord local Bishop Cheverus Assembly members attended a Holy Hour at Mission Church Roxbury last Thursday night. The next gathering is Sunday at 3 PM at the Copley Plaza Hotel Boston. The annual Communion Breakfast is set for Sunday October 31.
Public reminder for the West Concord Village Improvement Association meeting this Friday night at 8 o clock in the Harvey Wheeler School Auditorium. The Concord School Committee will discuss its recent report distributed to local voters with emphasis on parental interest in Concord public schools.

Concord Free Public Library gallery showcases Concord scenes and artists from its own collection. The Old Manse lent an ink drawing from 1867, Robert C. Vose Galleries provided a drawing of the Old Manse from 1883, and Homer Martin’s watercolor of Waldo Emerson’s house dates to 1878.

Admission is free each night and prizes fill the midway.
