Lions kick off annual chest campaign in Concord drive

Concord Lions Club reports over 800 bags of electric bulbs sold in a one day blitz. The drive, led by William H. Damon and Stanley M. Howard, continues through October with house to house canvassing and student volunteers from Boy Scouts. Proceeds support eye research.

Community Chest Campaign Sets $71,126 Goal in Concord Area

Concord reopens its Community Chest drive running October 14 to 24 with a target of 71,126 to fund ten agencies. Donald B. Wilson of Independence chairs the effort assisted by Braley A. Cameron and a large slate of sectional captains and volunteers across Concord and West Concord.

In Concord and surrounding areas residents prepare for Harvest Day events and Apple Week activities. Town groups plan cider tastings and bulb drives while schools schedule assemblies and the October town meeting warrant deadline approaches.

Concord Artists Exhibit Opens at Library Gallery

The Concord Free Public Library hosts the Concord Artists Annual Exhibition for four weeks ending November 4. Sponsored by the Concord Woman's Club, the show features both amateur and professional artists with a growing modern style. Notable works include Doris Hoar's watercolor Of Human Frailty and pieces by Nancy Baldwin, Alice Moulton, Bert C. Chambers, and many others. Mrs. Edward S. Fennessy coordinated the exhibition.

Mission for Holy Name Men at St Bernard’s Parish

Concord Holy Name men of St Bernard’s will attend 8:30 mass and receive Holy Communion as the parish mission ends. A collation will follow in Monument Hall. Three Dominican priests from New York conduct the mission for men and boys of the parish.

Young People Raise 18.76 for Salvation Army Campaign

West Concord youths staged a circus on Russell Wheeler’s front lawn and collected 18.76 for the Salvation Army. Nancy Sadler presented the receipts to Donald B. Wilson, chair of the Concord Community Chest fundraiser, with Philip A. Davis and Julian W. Ballou observing.

Union Church Trading Post Opens at West Concord

West Concord Union Church hosts a one day Trading Post on Thursday October 20 from 2 to 9 pm. Items include aprons knitted goods stuffed animals and gifts with a mammoth food table of deli favorites. A tea with sandwiches tea cakes and a snack bar serves hot dogs hamburgers salads coffee and milk.
