Miss Edith B Foster school nurse reports for September: pupils examined 914, treatments in school 168, home treatments 3, excluded due to illness 4, pupil referrals 94 to schools, 61 to homes. All children in Roosevelt and Wilson schools involved.
The Concord Woman's Club launches its season October 14 with Hon Edith Nourse Rogers speaking on women's share in government. Meetings run Mondays at 3 PM in the Girl Scout Community House with lectures, music, box lunches, and special events through April 13.
John Dempsey of the Depot team won the Concord Enterprise trophy for the leading pitcher in the league at the annual League banquet in Bedford. Hubbardville’s John Mullen earned the Concord Herald trophy for leading batter. The shield trophy will remain for five years, with dual champions gaining possession.
The Masons of the 12th Lowell Masonic District including Concord plan a Sunday pilgrimage to the Masonic Home in Charlton on October 13. Members with wives and families will travel by motor to the event.
Maynard defeats Lexington 18 0 at Alumni Field in the debut of home town coach Mike Vodokius. Crowd of 1200 witnesses sharp fader plays and tough blocking, with a youthful Maynard eleven showing championship potential despite injuries and bad breaks.
Mrs. Florence Fletcher Charles wife of Will A Charles longtime Acton high school assistant and educator died at the family home on Martin Street in her 67th year. She taught in Acton and Deerfield and helped organize the West Concord Parent Teacher Association and served in several D A R roles. Survived by her husband son Robert F Charles father Aaron J Fletcher sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the family home with Rev. Smith O Dexter officiating.
Concord The Enterprise praises Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Baggesen for 59 years in Concord and a quiet 52nd wedding anniversary at home. They enjoy good health and have a son Andrew C. Baggesen. A brother of Mrs Baggesen, John Anderson, retired deputy superintendent of the Massachusetts Reformatory, died last year.
The Maynard Council K of C held a stalled officers installation at the Masonic hall with a banquet. Arley Lawrence was grand knight and toastmaster. speakers included John W. King Rev. D. Edward O’Bryan and Walter O’Tecls. Officers installed: Arley Lawrence, Thomas Duggan, Ralph Sheridan, James C. Mahoney, Harold J. Morgan, Harold Johnston, Michael Veleno, Rev. D. Edward O’Bryan, Nicholas Whalen, Joseph Kaler, Stanley Sienkewicz Jr.
Beano social at St Bridget's parish Cooperative hall drew a large attendance last Friday night. Awards were given to numerous local parishioners including Mrs Addie Wolfe and William Lawson. Two special awards went to Katherine White and Mrs Lena Frankland. Sweepstakes and door prizes honored many attendees. another event is planned for this Friday under the same auspices.
Concord holds Emerson hospital donation day on Wednesday Oct 16 from 9 am to 5 pm. A marked truck on Mill Dam will receive vegetables and canned goods. If unable to come, call 303 to arrange pickup.
The West Concord Woman's Club outlines its 1935 36 season with meetings from October to April at Warner Hall. Events include lectures on New England Gardens Education Legislation Current State Legislation and travels with tea hosts and musical performances. Guest Night and the annual meeting are to be announced with all other meetings at 3 o'clock in Warner Hall.
On November 6 at Sudbury Town Hall the Eleventh District Art Conference opens at 10 a.m. with talks on art in daily life. A luncheon is served at 12 30. Richard Chesbro Hall, son of the Concord school superintendent and Mrs Wells A Hall, to marry Miss Harriet S Dickson of Ken Eleanor. Hall is with the Spil Conservation Service in Cohocton, New York.
Five youths armed with three home made pistols attacked guards at the Massachusetts Reformatory in Concord. John H. Denton was shot during the break with officers and instructors responding promptly. The break occurred at the stated hour on Saturday as inmates attempted to seize keys and weapons.
Chief John Connors reached 33 years on the Maynard police force October 2. Appointed by Selectmen P. J. Arthur Coughlin and George J. Marlboro, he served as a patrolman before becoming chief. Connors is known in state police circles and has represented the town in court for years.
Unidentified driver of John J. Gaudet's car in Cambridge reportedly fled after Patrolman Finan fired shots during a pursuit. The car, later found abandoned near Court Lane with a bullet hole, had been reported stolen in Cambridge.
Fight fans will view Baer and Louis fight pictures this week at the Peoples Theatre. Burton Coughlan, manager, previously showed World Series games and aims to bring timely news reels back to the screen. The Peoples Theatre earns its reputation with news pictures while they are still news.
John O four has been elected a Monitor by the students and teachers at Worcester Academy. The honor is the highest student distinction and rarely awarded to a one year attendee. He excelled in football and track and led committees as president of the Lettermen's Club.
