Citizens of West Concord protest altering the town name to Concord amid discussions of consolidating post offices with Concord. Postmaster cites limited authority as petitions circulate, while locals push to keep West Concord designation amid growth and industry in the area.
Town officials discuss a possible Concord Carlisle regional school amendment to include grades seven and eight. Nelson, the town manager, plans to notify departments and notes 20 to 25 articles may appear in a special town meeting warrant. A regional junior high for grades 7 8 9 is envisioned with new construction or additions.
Acton special town meeting set for Monday 8 p.m. at Blanchard Auditorium to decide funding for hiring an architect to draw plans for a 20 room elementary school on town land off Arlington Street. If approved construction would run 16 to 18 months with completion not before 1964. a two story design may replace older one story buildings.
Concord fire chief opposes a plan to create a smoking room in the Veterans Building for teens in the Teen Center. He cautioned that lifting the No Smoking rule could cause insurance underwriters to cancel fire coverage, and selectmen have not ruled on the idea.

Chairman John McLaughlin introduced him. He pledged aggressive representation in the senate and hinted at another appearance Oct 18. His district includes Acton Maynard Sudbury Stow and nearby communities.
Lincoln residents join Lincoln fire and police for an old time barbecue and muster on October 13 with a rain date of October 14. Activities include Little League baseball hand tub contests with Acton Holliston and South borough water polo games amusements rides and refreshments. Ken's Barbecue Service Wayland is caterer. Concord residents elect Concord-David N. Reece 92 Main Street as chair of the traffic safety control committee at a Monday organizational meeting. Also chosen were Mrs. John D. Murphy 4 Riverdale Road secretary and Stanley M. Howard Alcott Road publicity.
Concord-Boy scouts will hold their yearly waste paper collection this Sunday across the town. Residents should bundle and place papers at the curb before 1 p.m. Volunteers with trucks and manpower are sought to speed the effort.
