Acton Center report notes Earle Farrar returned from Tampa Florida. The Camp Fire Girls gathered at Miss Elsie B. Ellis residence last Saturday to continue making attractive novelties for the Christmas sale scheduled for December 6.
The Ser. P. of H. No. 259 held a public meeting Tuesday evening November 8 featuring Col. C. H. French who presented a beautifully illustrated lecture on the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. The next Grange meeting Tuesday evening November 22 will elect officers and is described as one of the year’s most important gatherings.
Charles E. Boyce owns a Ford touring car. A. H. Gilmore of Clinton visited Monday and called on friends. A new one pipe International heater was installed at the home of 8, kh. Burroughs. Minnie Devoster of Hopedale attended the funeral of Charles Dudley last week. George Weaver and friends of South Acton and Maynard joined the New England Fox Club for the annual hunt at Windsor.
South Acton residents including Ralph Hastins and Hazel Schofield are noted with extended family visits. Mr. and Mrs James Brown are visiting their daughter in Brookline and Maple Street. Charlies Fletcher family travels to Maryland and Washington. Hazel Schofield and Helen Moore visit Hastings household during holidays. A Wednesday ice storm caused widespread damage to fruit trees and property with many limb breaks. a large elm limb nearly blocked School Street.
Frank W. Hoit of Finney and Hoit sustained two broken ribs after being tossed from the running board of his auto at the freight office while loading a shipment of mattresses. A pocketful of letters cushioned the impact and prevented worse injuries.
The West Acton Baptist Church observed its 75th anniversary with afternoon and evening programs. Rev Harry Freda delivered a sermon on the spirit of Christ, focusing on tolerance transformation and triumph. Miss Laura Brown presented a church history to acclaim.
Mrs. Mary A. Peterson of Concord a Red Cross nurse spoke before the Men's Civic Federation on November 9 during ladies' night. She recalled three months in Turkey with a group of 52 nurses and 27 doctors. Cake and ice cream were served at the close.
Mrs. Lilian Barrett PRA and Mrs. Mary Clondman MRA visited Winona Rebekah Lodge for a special meeting Tuesday with a 6 30 supper and three candidates receiving the Rebekah degree. Grand officers attended and a large turnout was noted. Regular meeting to follow Wednesday with one candidate to be admitted.
A player piano used for only one year is being disposed of as a party leaves town. The instrument can be viewed at 615 Main St in Concord Junction immediately.
Auto bandits terrorize Middlesex, passing through Concord on Saturday and fleeing after a gasoline station break in Lexington. They hijacked a Whitney car, stole a Berkley Wheeler Cadillac, and were later linked to a Sudbury abandonment. A man was arrested on a Boston-bound train for drunkenness. Mrs. Bridget Grady, mother of Dr. Thomas Grady, died in Clinton.
Concord Cooperative bank organized on November 10 with President Raymond B Willard, Vice-president John J Connorton, Clerk Benjamin Moody and a large board of directors. Shares at $1 each fund loans for farms homes or building, with Caiger elected attorney, charter filed with state, banking operations to begin February 1922.
Troop 1 Concord Junction honors their scoutmaster E. B. Read with a silk folding umbrella as he moves to New York. The boys and parents express gratitude for his work and hope a successor will soon be found. Best wishes are sent to Mr Read and family for happiness and success.
Funeral services for Densmore Bailey Hosmer were conducted Friday at 3 pm in First Parish Unitarian. Born March 28 1850 in Concord, he was a respected local citizen. Survived by two sisters and a brother, with burial at Sleepy Hollow cemetery. he was a 32nd degree Mason and Corinthian Lodge member attended the service.
