Mrs. Fred Oates died Friday evening at 5 30 at her Garfield street home after a brief illness. She was 36, born in Connecticut, and moved to Maynard six years ago with her husband and family. Survived by husband, two children, and one brother in Providence. Active in St George's Episcopal Church and St Hilda's Guild. Funeral conducted by Rev Arthur Papineau at 1 pm Sunday. burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Members of the high school debate Feb Friday on should the Army and Navy be increased with students debating for and against.
The Maynard Checker Club issues a formal challenge to the Concord Checker Club for a competition to be held soon at Maynard club quarters. The public notice invites Concord players to accept and set a date for the event.
Emmett Riley has gone to work at the A. Haynes store. Miss Agnes Barry of Lynn visited Sunday. Repairs have been made on Walnut and Bancroft streets with new curbing. Miss Beatrice Foster of Boston visited her sister Miss Annie Foster. Miss Lena Whitney takes a week’s vacation from the W. B. Case store. Rev. Walter J. Browne and Rev. John Sheehan census takers for St. Bridget’s parish. Mrs. W. F. Stevenson is an inmate of the Waltham hospital for an operation. Mr. and Mrs. William M. Coombs of Attleboro visited Mr. and Mrs. George H. Gutteridge. Banns published for Miss Mamie Burns and Frank Joyce in Dorchester. Willie Boman of Fitchburg lectured at Finnish hall on Parker street on modeling the character of children. Old mill story returns, as familiar as Bryan’s presidential bid. Miss Mabel Bishop Mildred Walker Edith Davis and Marion Lowe theatre party for Ben Hur matinee. Walter Courtney’s 11th birthday party with games. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gray, recently in Humboldt district, return to town and stay with Mrs. Catherine Carey.
Born to Mr and Mrs Fred Stiles on Friday November 10 a daughter visits the J H D Whitcomb and Paul Brown families after travel in the West. Mr and Mrs Michael Bradley hosted a farewell party at home with friends from Littleton and Ayer featuring a Morris chair silver knife and umbrella as gifts and eloquent acceptance remarks. The Bradleys are popular and their departure is deeply regretted by their young friends.
At a special town meeting on November 6 N B Conant was chosen moderator. Voted to spend 75 for furniture for a children’s department in the public library. Committee on electric lighting report accepted and plan to manufacture and distribute electricity authorized. Electric light commissioners elected F A Patch Waldo B Conant and Chas F Johnson. Asked to report feasibility and cost of an electric street car or alternative line between the common and depot.
A town update lists residents moving in and out including John Maguire Roy Bailey Misa Mary Leland and John Collins. Local events include the Jolly Three dance at Association Hall and a West Concord Woman's club meeting with Mrs Walden speaking on Women of the Bible plus a social tea and current events segment. Edward Loughlin opens a law office in Lapham building and local hospital dedication draws many townspeople. Varry Dye improves after injury and the four year old William Christian recovers from a freight car incident. Jague leads a race with Joseph Fallon strong in his first year.
Beginning Monday evening the three day bazaar to aid Help of Christians church will start. First two afternoons and evenings feature sales of fancy articles food candy with evening entertainments led by T Blood and reader Migs Murphy. Edward Loughlin Wead will direct the program on the second night. The bazaar closes Wednesday evening with Mayor John F Fitzgerald of Boston scheduled to speak.

Concord Musical Club meets at Walter Shaw's on Tuesday the 21st. Ivory Wheeler at Dr Lapham's place on Keyes window ad. Mrs Hattie Saunders of former Concord visits friends. John H Scwick of Milton at Colonial Inn and moves to Monument St. Rebekahs in Lynn. Concord Coal and Lumber Co to change hands to R L Wilson and W Raymond. Albert Oliver recently in Minnesota New Hampshire. Harvard Musical Club concert opens Concord Lyceum season to a full house in Town Hall. Walter A Carr town clerk posts West trip from San Diego and visits a battleship. Concord road commissioners join Harold Orendorff and Wood and C H Hurd in Highway Association meeting and tour through Cambridge tunnel. Lufkin enrolled as a member of the association.
