Concord saw its coldest morning of the year with temperatures down to 16 degrees in outlying areas. Snow flurries were reported yesterday as motorists faced freezing conditions and forecasts warned of even colder weather ahead.
Howe stars as Concord High thumps Billerica 39 to 6 before 3000 fans at Playground. Gracie intercepts and Hanley scores key TDs as Concord extends its win streak to 7 and holds 1947 season pace with 13-6 lead at halftime.
Rod Loynd resigns from the presidency of the Booster Association of Concord due to business pressure. A successor will be announced soon after a regular monthly meeting at the Harvey Wheeler School. John Bartolomeo gave a financial report. secretary Barry Higgins announced the meeting.
Concord resident Mrs. Katherine Jennings Downing, 71, widow of Michael J. Downing, died at Emerson Hospital from injuries after an automobile accident near Lincoln two weeks earlier. A longtime Concord resident, she lived at 21 Belknap Street and led the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, with active parish service at St Be’s Confraternity. Funeral services will be held Friday with a solemn high mass of requiem at St Bernard’s Church.

Concord holds funeral services Saturday for Pvt. Robert Scott Brown the town’s first World War II casualty to be returned home. The caisson procession traveled Main Street to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery with VFW Legion band and local officials in attendance. Brown born May 14 1915 in Concord lived in Chatham before enlisting prior to Pearl Harbor. He survived by his father and stepmother and was laid to rest with a firing squad and wreath at the grave.
A two week Catholic mission is conducted at St Bernard's Church Concord by Lowell Oblate Fathers M O M L I and Leo whoa OM L guiding daily masses and services. Evening rites begin 9 45 with litany sermon and adoration for women and girls while men receive a forthcoming schedule. Children have sessions 3 30 free to end Saturday morning. Public invited to attend.
Mrs Edith Weck Strom of Maynard is the former Mrs McGrath. The couple married at St Bernard's Church last November 10 and have lived in the area since. Mr McGrath works at the Concord Post Office and they have two daughters.
Concord churches plan a Thanksgiving Service November 27 at 9 oclock in the First Parish Meeting House. Rev Bradford Hastings of Trinity Church will preach. A collection will fund meals for those in need and aid the American Silent Gift relief effort, contributions accepted at local addresses.
A record collection of waste was made in Concord and West Concord last Sunday afternoon by the two Catholic parishes St Bernard's and Our Help after J McCarthy and Michael J Goran. A spring drive is planned while residents are urged to continue saving paper.
Mrs fatian Pierpont and Mrs Herbert Buttrick Romeo were honored by friends on their 25th wedding anniversary at a concert. The couple shared a celebration with attendees and well wishes.
Our Lady Help of Christians West Concord plans its annual penny sale next Friday evening November 21. Five grand prizes and over 200 minor prizes including Thanksgiving foods will be awarded, with electric appliances as top grand prizes. Prize donations may be left at the rectory. Rev. Alexander J. McCarthy and Rev. Joseph W. Sullivan lead a large committee.

Lynch is chairman of the committee.
