A garage fire near 98 Union Turnpike, West Concord, started early Sunday, destroying a sedan and valuables valued at $1000. Fire Chief Harry E. Tuttle estimated total damage at $2500, noting two hours to extinguish after a passing motorist alerted residents at 3:45 am. Firefighters laid 1200 feet of hose across a seldom-used road and over a railroad crossing to control the blaze.

Waell as vice president and Plincy Tewes Jr as secretary treasurer. Ralph Holden sell Robb joined a board of governors with Danforth Comins. The club voted to sponsor a barn dance on November 11.
George Crawford of Nobscot, longtime South Sudbury resident, died recently at Framingham Hospital at age 81. He leaves a son, a daughter, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Nobscot and burial followed in Wadsworth Cemetery in town.
Concord Erne st Flachsbart of Acton road announces the engagement of his daughter Miss Marion L Flachsbart to David A Carr of South Easton. No wedding date has been set.
Miss Margaret Eaton of Musketaquid road will marry Charles C Gibson of Atlanta Georgia on Saturday at 3 30 p m at the First Parish Church. Rev Edward P Daniels will perform the ceremony.
West Concord Miss Helen Krukanis daughter of Mrs Sophie Krukanis 17 Chest Street has set November 19 as the wedding date for her marriage to Henry Smith son of Mr and Mrs John Smith formerly of Cambridge Turnpike. The ceremony will be at Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 3 oclock.
Mr and Mrs Charles I Theriault 11 Baker Avenue welcome a son born October 21 at Emerson Hospital. Mr and Mrs Donald Fullerton South Acton announce a boy born October 25 at Emerson Hospital. Mr and Mrs Richard T Lawson Maynard receive congratulations on a daughter born October 24. Mr and Mrs Preston L Cushing West Acton are parents of a boy born October 18. Mr and Mrs James H Edmon ds 1 Thoreau Court celebrate a son born October 20 at Emerson Hospital.
Installation of officers in Concord Lodge 1.0.C.F. was held last Thursday. New officers include Warren Rice as Noble Grand, Harold Hall as Vice Grand, John Allen recording secretary, Henry Ont Thompson Blood Frank Walker and Robert Cousins as trustees.
A near 50 mph gale struck Concord last Saturday causing two notable losses. The Old Pine at the Ralph Waldo Emerson House on Lexington road snapped 8 to 10 feet above the base and collapsed onto the house area, injuring nothing major but damaging eaves and roof materials. The nearby coacery Christmas Tree at Lansbrook road and Commonwealth avenue, a 46 foot hemlock, was uprooted and left with wires. Miss Helen A Legate, the Emerson house occupant, learned of the damage from police.
I D Servais heads Concord American Legion James J Mansfield Post 158 as members met at the Veterans Building on Walden Street to elect annual officers. Installation set for November 6 with Auxiliary in joint session. Roger Allen chairs the installation committee. Names listed include Servais as Commander Allen as senior vice, Damon as junior vice, Landini as adjutant, Pratt as finance officer, Brown as historian, Whitmore, Edgarton, Derby, Leighton and other officers and committee chairs.
Concord Legion held its annual Children's Hallowe en party at the Veterans building drawing many hundreds of children. The Concord Legion band led by Edward Kelley paraded the streets and Louis Moro the magician entertained at the event.
The North Shore group met at Colonial Inn in Concord on Tuesday night with dinner and a business session led by president Mrs. Helen Clogs ton and secretary Miss Della Swain. An entertainment program featured Rothel MacRae and Elizabeth Reed with singing dancing and guitar and Ruth Henderson at the piano. This marked the first meeting in the locality.

Harry Burk is confined to his Bedford street home with a heavy cold, staying indoors while symptoms limit his daily activities. The report notes no complications and that he is resting at home.
Miss Anne Sullivan daughter of Daniel Sullivan wed Charles Seale Nee te ain at Our Lady of Christians church rectory in West Concord. Rev William Shaughnessy performed the ceremony. A reception followed at the bride’s father home. The couple plan a southern honeymoon before settling at 65 Street Fairfield Maine.
Carmina tino of Old Mill road died last day morning at his home after a long illness. Born in Italy on August 2 1875 he lived in West Concord many years where he worked as a farmer. Survived by wife Domenica two daughters Jennie Edith three sons Alfred Joseph and Frank all of Concord. Funeral services were held Monday at Our Lady Help of Christians church with Rev L Ford officiating burial in St Bernard's cemetery.
Townsend 74, ex Tax Collector and Town Treasurer, was hit at the Main and Sudbury Road intersection last Monday noon. Reformatory engineer George LaBounty, the driver, says Townsend walked into the car while waiting for traffic to slow. Townsend suffered a severe scalp wound and facial lacerations. he was taken to Emerson Hospital for observation. The car had a broken right headlight.
A Concord dog vaccination drive will vaccinate rabies for licensed dogs at the Road Department garage on Everett Street Friday November 3 from 3 30 to 5 30 P M and at the West Concord Fire Station Saturday November 4 from 3 30 to 5 30 P M No charge for licensed dogs owners must show licenses This is the year’s final clinic Regulations require annual vaccination or restraint for all dogs.
A barn dance was held last Saturday night at the Girl Scout House on Walden Street. Misses Mary Thorpe Elinor Peterson Flora House and Dexter Fuss Christopher Wadsworth and Frederick Wulsin served as organizers.
Henry A. Betowney, in Concord District Court, was fined 50 for driving under the influence of liquor and 20 for negligent driving. He pleaded guilty and did not appeal. Betowney, returning from a football game, was in an accident with James Cavanaugh of Littleton. Cavanaugh and his wife Helen were involved and shaken. State Police arrested him at the West Concord barracks.
William McCarthy of Fairhaven reports partial recovery from a work related foot injury sustained last week while with the water department. Doctors plan x rays this week to assess healing progress and determine next steps.
The Musketaquigh Gun Club conducted a pension dinner last Thursday under president John Hilliard. William Caldwell of Waltham donated the deer for the event, and more than 50 members enjoyed a well served dinner.

James E Mitchell the West Concord railroad gate tender was found negligent by Judge Wilfred Gray in Superior Court and placed on probation for six months. The ruling recalls the crash last April when a bus carrying James H Finigan’s students collided with a train, killing one.

First Lieutenant Gerard J. Burke son of Mr and Mrs Thomas J Burke of Concord has been named commander of the first platoon Company A in the ROTC unit at the University of Maine the announcement said Burke leads the unit under the supervision of the military company staff.
Concord High travels to Wellesley on Saturday as two members return from suspension. Wellesley, coached by a new staff, has won five straight and sits near the top of Class C. The older series shows Concord won last year and 32 0 the year before, but this game may hinge on returning backs John McBreen and Frannie Horne.

In Concord District Court Associate Judge Pierre Northrup found Private Frederick Stewart 21 attached to Fort Devens guilty of drunkenness and unauthorized use of an automobile with a ten dollar fine and a one year suspended sentence. Frank Follensbee was found guilty of drunkenness driving under the influence of liquor and unlawful use of an automobile with a fifty dollar fine and a one year suspended sentence. Both men were injured in a collision at Kenmore Square near the Hotel Canterbury and received medical treatment before Lexington police arrested them.
Freddie Belmont aged 18 son of Mrs. Minerva Belmont of 4 Grant Street is ordered to report to the United States Training Base at Newport Rhode Island for three months of naval service training before assignment to a ship.

The Concord Company and Massachusetts National Guard held their regular weekly drill at the State House on Monday. A public program followed with Lt Lloyd Spooner to speak, then movies and refreshments, inviting local men to attend.
Hudson Mr. and Mrs. Parent of 10 Lpring Street observed their 26th anniversary with a dinner at the home of their daughter Mrs. James Ball on Turnpike Road Fitchburg. They were married at St. Michael's Church by Father Doran. Mrs. Parent was Elizabeth Beavis. They have three children, Mrs. Ball, Arline and Mary. Mr. Parent works at Frye Service Station on Central Street.
A Hudson Halloween event hosted by Miss Phyllis Rodger on Arlington Street featured Mary Gillis as hostess. Guests entered through a decorative web in the recreation room, played games with prizes, and enjoyed lunch prepared by Mary with Phyllis assisting.
Mr and Mrs Edward S Ricker of Carlisle observed their 32nd wedding anniversary with a dinner at the home of their son Winfield W Ricker in Bedford. The couple, long residents of Carlisle, have two sons and two grandsons. Relatives and Concordians joined in the celebration at Carlisle Unitarian Church where the ceremony was noted years ago.
