Burnell C. Norris a 30 year old farmhand formerly from Vermont was arraigned in district court at Concord on charges linked to abducting a 14 year old girl. The girl and Norris were arrested Friday afternoon by Sgt David Scribner after being located in Burlington Vermont. Norris waived rendition and was returned to jail. The girl who disappeared May 21 at 7 pm is with her parents in West Acton and may face delinquent charges.
During Memorial Day week flag care is provided at three sites by local families including the Andersons at Veterans Building Emerson Playground by the Roddays and Macy family at Percy A Ridout Playground. The Phillip Smith flag will be raised in Sleepy Hollow by his family. A ceremonial review at Monument Square will honor the volunteers with a parade led by the grand marshal and staff. Concord Elks plan further honors on Flag Day at Emerson Playground.
Concord Sunday Trinity Church lists Holy Communion services at 8 9 15 and 11 with the rector. Confirmed class members are invited. Sabine County clinics schedule second Sabineva vaccine doses for Type III polio. Two sessions on June 5 at Alcott School and June 7 at Thoreau School run 2 to 4 pm. A June 16 session at Alcott School 9 to 11 am vaccinate May 12 recipients.
A Memorial Day assembly at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School featured a Lord’s Prayer pledge and readings by Anita Preston Nancy Erikson Kathryn Darling and others. The Acton-Boxborough Band performed selections by Sousa Longfellow and others with Taps by John Barber and James Vinal. Band Director Constantine Lithberakis led the program.
Acton Roxborough Regional High announces three seniors Miss Barbara Bed doe Miss Martha Ferry and Donald Lee received certificates of merit from the National Association of Secondary School Principals scholarship board in Washington DC after a national competition involving 47 410 seniors from over 10 500 schools. Principal Raymond J Grey announced the honor. Candidates for office at Acton Roxborough High met in Blanchard Auditorium and delivered speeches to win class offices. After speeches students voted by grades and results will be announced Friday evening at the Victory Hops event by the student council.

Acton Police Chief Edward J. Collins Jr announces bicycle registration Saturday June 9 from 9 a m to 2 p m at West Acton Fire Station. New supply of number plates received after original stock ran out. Owners should bring bicycles in good condition with reflector. Small charge for plates.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Weiss of 2 Anthony road recently returned from a week in Miami Beach Florida and halted in Williamsburg Virginia on the way home. They are parents of fourth through 12th grade students and are reminded of the June 5 date for POMS meeting chaired by William Toland.
At 2 p m the town house bids will be opened by Town Manager Theodore M Nelson to pay for Emerson Playground five tennis courts. An appropriation of 10500 was made for this purpose with provisions for possible installation of lights.
The Acton Board of Health will hold a free rabies clinic for dogs on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the grounds of the Julia L. McCarthy School. The event aims to protect pets and public health.
Acton Board of Health runs Sabin oral polio clinics for children who attended the Tope I clinic. Clinics are June 6 at West Acton Fire Station, June 7 at South Acton Fire Station, and June 8 at Acton Center Fire Station, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. under medical supervision.

At a May 22 recreation commission meeting with selectmen the panel discussed adding a land acquisition article to the next special town meeting warrant. The 25 acre parcel runs from Elm Street to Seneca Road and was previously walked with owner Porter Jenks, whowill hold action until town vote.

Concord reports three town resignations this week as Town Manager Theodore M. Nelson notes Enrico F. Venti retires after 39 years with the water and sewer department and Russell J. Halloran resigns as recreation director. Halloran will become assistant superintendent of recreation in Wellesley. Venti shifts to a role at Xavier High School.
Bedford D D G Leon Frisbee Lynn will induct new Lions officers on June 13 at the Lexington Inn. New president is Atty Richard Donovan now practicing in Concord. President Robert E McKenna conducted last Wednesday meeting after supper at Wedgewood Club and Charles Driscoll spoke at the Little League event.
Carlisle building inspector Ford Hanna reports Jan 1 to Apr 30 permits valued about 66000. Town clerk Margaret Heald records attorney general approval of an amendment to building laws covering garages as voted at the March 12 town meeting.
The water district meets Monday at the town hall to select a moderator and decide on raising funds to extend an eight inch main 2600 feet along High Street from Conant to the Trafton property. Voters will consider borrowing authority and a pro rated connection fee for 1962 to 1972 entrants, plus possibly extending the district to include the entire town.
Town schedules another special meeting for Monday at 7 30 p m with fourteen articles in the special warrant. Action items include industrial rezoning school plans an industrial road transfer of surplus funds council for aging and related matters.
