Concord banker Charles Heywood dies at 70

Charles Fay Heywood, longtime Concord National Bank officer and president, died Friday of a heart attack. A noon funeral was held at First Parish Church with Rev. Edward Perry Daniels. committal at Sleepy Hollow. He served as director of Middlesex Mutual Fire Insurance and led Middlesex Coal and Grain Company. He was born in Concord and lived on Lexington road.

May Festival Opens Concord Academy Commencement Season

Concord Academy opened its 1988 May commencement season with a May festival in the school gardens. Senior Nancy Parker of Lowell was crowned Queen of the May by popular vote of upper school girls, crowned by Louise Prodks and Barbara Lenathan. Mary Payson led music, dances were directed by Mrs Richard K Conant, and an on campus art exhibition ran in the gym under Miss W Elizabeth Lord and Miss Louisa J Goodhue.

Concord High overwhelms Marlboro in track meet

Concord Swamps Marlboro 62 to 19 on Emerson playground Cinder Track. Berlied led several events including 100 yards and 220 yard dash with Mulvey and Herman also placing. Distances reached included 20 feet 7 inches in broad jump 36 feet 4 inches in shot put and a height of 6 feet in pole vault with Berlied and Armour tying for second.

The final rummage sale of the Emerson Hospital Aid Society at the State Armory in ord last Saturday was highly successful. It raised a net profit of about $935, with gratitude to all contributors and buyers who supported the hospital.
