Arthur J. Coughlan is named postmaster to replace Arthur B. Walker whose four year term ends June 20. Coughlan has long town service including assessor and state representative roles and is noted for town moderating and committee work.
The new postmaster, Mr. Coughlan, has received congratulations from many local friends and external sources. He is son of Dennis and. born October 4, 1871 in Concord. A former Marine, he enlisted May 18, 1891, and served five years, including postings in Norfolk and on the U S and Newark, with visits to South American and South African ports.
A brief biographical note traces his early work in a mill before joining Metropolitan Life Co. He opened a real estate and insurance office in the Postoffice block in 1906 and remained there. He was elected tax collector in 1899 for a two year term and later served on the board starting in 1902.

Charles Shea builds a new structure and offers scientific horse shoeing on Concord rd. Margaret Foley delivers a noted suffrage lecture last Monday. Liensack lodge to hold open house this Saturday. Barges will meet trains from Boston to transport villagers. Mrs. C L Norton of Malden celebrates a new daughter born May 9. Thomas Butler hosts a surprise party on Hartwell rd presenting a stickpin. Strawberry Shortcake festival planners at Congregational church aim for a fine event on May 26. Mr White escorts graduates to visit the Cord high school Thursday morning to view work.
Michael F. Manning named next postmaster of Bedford after securing backing from National Committeeman John W. Coughlin and local Democrats. The 51 year old Irish native and Bedford resident for 22 years is a barber active in insurance and politics, married with three children, and vows to improve local postal service.
Mr and Mrs Robert Brown welcomed a son. Martin Gilligan rests from reformatory duties. Henry Qua enjoys a Massachusetts Reformatory vacation. Lillian and Marion Tetley of Boston visit Cora McClellan. Gate tender Joseph Gites retires from Commonwealth Ave crossing due to ill health. The Greo club of the Letter Carriers union hosts inmates of the Mags Reformatory Monday.
