Governor Saltonstall Pushes Bedrock Airport Plan

Special to This Paper from Boston Governor Leverett Saltonstall secured favorable action on a legislative program to provide an airport as an alternate landing field for commercial airlines. Republicans used parliamentary tactics to delay the vote until six p m as Bedford and Lexington residents objected. Herter urged a sport bill for commercial aviation while opponents argued federal funding would be available for defense. The House approved the plan with conditions about federal funds and cash retention, moving to debate further today. The core issue is whether the airport will be restricted to military use or opened to commercial aviation as demanded by the Governor.
