A showcase announces a Special Used Car Sale featuring vintage lots such as 15 Dodge Runabout 1916 Overland models and 1942 Cadillac trucks. The ad lists numerous 1910s to 1940s touring cars and limousines with repaint notes and condition remarks.
Aldén Wheeler owns a 1917 Chandler. George Nichols of Somerville visited town. Dr Theodore Chamberlin visited Portland Maine. John Raymond sold two Potter Street houses from Hubbard estate to Mrs James Hagert y. Groton school defeated Middlesex 6 to 1. Jarvis Derby returns from Durham for the year. May basket sale and supper held in the Mightee church vestry on Friday afternoon. Concord Grangers attended Maynard Grange supper and minstrel show. Odd Fellows and Rebekahs mark 98th anniversary with Sut entertainment on Monday May 7. Union Bible Society met at Mrs Smith Owen Dexter home for sewing and refreshments.
Pomona Grange met in the A C U W hall for a two session day. Afternoon talks covered Whither Are We Going and What is to Be the Future of Our National Life with several speakers and topics on church home and country life. An evening program featured a solo, an address Sunny Side of Farm Life, and vocal selections followed by a meal. The next meeting is set for May 24 in Bemis hall Lincoln.
Rehearsals for The Marriage of Kitty by the Concord Dramatic Club were halted after a cast member found Red Cross duties would keep him away from Concord, making his participation impossible.
Invitations have gone out for a subscription dance at the town hall this evening to benefit the Concord Red Cross. The matrons presiding are Mrs. Chilton Cabot, Mrs. Frederic A. Pratt, Mrs. Adelbert B. Messer, Mrs. George G. Russell, and Mrs. W. Lincoln Smith.
Joseph Reed received a new Saxon car this week. D H Adams sharpens up the S J Foster house. Dorothy Coulter spent last week in Brookline and Boston. Foster family visiting Beverly relatives. Hart hires Devane house and moves from Shirley soon. Irtha Brown and Mrs Love of Brookline visited Martin Brown. Holt family from West Somerville visited Clara Holt. John Greer and family moved to Pepperell for a farm position. Francis Hopps suffered a gun wound from a discharged revolver. hand healing. Mrs Furbush returned from Wolaston to family home. Hall Staples at Concord hospital recovering well. Coburn improving with nurse Wilcox returning to Boston. Littlefield improving at Concord hospital. plans to raise chickens at home.
The West Acton Women's Club held its annual meeting and election of officers on Monday afternoon April 23 at the Baptist vestry. Elected president was Mrs Lulu L Clark with Mrs Minnie R Hoar as vice president and other officers including Vera K Baker rec. sec. and Virginia A Sanderson cor. sec. The treasurer is Mrs Rachel Haynes and auditor Mrs Elizabeth S Parker. Committee chairs include civics Mrs Jennie A Holton social Mrs Joseph Sebastian music Mrs Florence Salmon philanthropic Mrs Evangeline P Hall conservation Mrs Minnie F.R. Hoar literature and art Mrs Laura A Brown custodian Mrs Katherine Kinsley hospitality Miss Blinorff Weeks.
Mr and Mrs Alfred Edwards of Winchester have purchased the B L Wheeler place. The house has been cleaned and fumigated and will be put in shape and greatly improved by the new owners. District water will be installed and B A King wired the house for electric lights.
Schools in Concord Junction close for the regular bi monthly vacation. Miss Dorothy Babcock of Somerville visits her sister Mrs. W B Goddard. Miss Marjorie Wetherbee of Walnut Hill attends weekend at home. May devotions to be held at Help of Christians church Wednesday and Friday evenings. Friends hear Gov McCall signed resolve to reimburse Harry C Parker for accident expenses at the Massachusetts Reformatory on June 19.
Ralph W. Howe son of Mrs. B F Howe and Ruth Hammond daughter of Mr and Mrs William Hammond were married in Arlington last Thursday in a quiet ceremony at the bride’s home. Rev Robinson officiated with a single ring service. The couple plan to reside on Highland Street after a wedding trip. Howe is a Concord Junction native, a 1905 Concord High School graduate and now chief clerk at Revere Rubber Co. Mrs. Howe trained as a nurse at Flower Hospital New York.
Concord High Glee club staged La Mascotte attracting many Friday and Saturday crowds. Several notable attendees were local residents. A full report appears in Concord columns.
Arbor day was observed Saturday in Bedford. Walter Manning joined the U S Marines. Miss Edna Hazeltine visited town. Fred Sullivan Jr is recovering from surgery. Grammar scholars enjoy a week’s vacation. Home guard training continues several evenings weekly. Fire engine house is being rearranged for a new auto truck arriving soon. Miss Billie Peterson has recovered from appendicitis and may go out. New England Nurseries report large business under John Kirkegaard. A large number attended the Saturday night showing of Seventeen at the Lexington.
The Grange fair committee met at John R. Comley’s home and elected John R. Comley as chairman Mrs M B Laws as secretary and Roger W Brown as treasurer Prizes include $5 for kitchen gardens $3 and $2 from Bedford Grange for yields on a acre of potatoes a top $2 for best 12 ears of corn from Bedford Grange Many prizes remain undecided and competitors are urged to register with Belle Blake and Herbert Brown.
Charles Crawford Gorst of Cambridge will present one of his illustrated lectures on Birds and Their Songs for the Nature Study class at the town hall Friday evening. Gorst, a monopolist in liner entertainment, has studied birds since childhood and learned to call them by imitating their notes.
