Death of West Concord Resident Lane in Brockton

West Concord resident Lane a longtime shoe tradesman and church member died of a heart attack in Brockton after visiting his sister Nellie Lane Mosher. Born 1850 in Abington, he worked in Rockland Brockton Warren Ohio and Worcester and later headed a shoe department at the Massachusetts Reformatory. He married Mary Van Ambage in 1874 and celebrated a golden anniversary in 1924. Burial is in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Concord.

Concord Lodge Elks Sponsor Preschool Clinic

The Concord Lodge of Elks voted to sponsor a six month preschool clinic for children whose families lack funds for regular medical care. A meeting at Red Cross Headquarters included Maurice McWalter Dr Stanton Garfield Red Cross nurses Edith Spiers May Dennis and welfare officials Chilton Cabot and Mrs Foote. The first clinic will be held the last Thursday in April.

Parent- Teachers Hear Program After Meeting

Concord Mrs George Shepard vice president of the West Concord Parent-Teacher Association led the March meeting at the Harvey Wheeler School in Dr Adams absence. A music program by current and former Harvey Wheeler pupils followed with four dainty ladies in gowns performing a party routine to music and songs. Dorothea Bertelsen violinist with Mrs Burleigh Pratt at piano and Jean Tombeno singing and dancing were featured along with accordion pieces by John Gallagher.

Concord Woman's Club awards $100 scholarship

The Concord Woman's Club appropriates $100 for a higher education scholarship. Eligibility requires residence in Concord, membership or graduation from Concord High School this year, financial need, and recommendation by the high school principal. Seven Students Begin Work at Emerson Hospital

Concord reports seven students from the Household Nursing Association in Boston have completed six weeks of domestic science training and are transferred to Emerson Hospital under Miss Louise Gunaris, assistant superintendent. The new students include Dorothy Matson, Nattk Mattie Newell, Mary Porst, Marchie Head, Elizabeth Schocnhof, Eleanor Stewart Waldham, Marjorie Coville, and Jane Bushen.

Dust of the Road and El Cristo Lenten Plays at Trinity Church

Concord-Kenneth man presents Dust of the Road a light play exploring remorse with Jack Start Knapp’s drama class in the cast and El Cristo a Margaret Larkin study of worldly and spiritual values first shown in 1926. The two plays are part of the Lenten observance at the Trinitarian Church with a collection to defray royalty costs. Youth in Conflict discussed by Dr Van Waters at club meeting

The West Concord Woman's Club met on Friday March 17 at 3 p m. Dr Miriam Van Waters head of Sherborns Reform Institution spoke on Youth in Conflict noting juvenile delinquency has fallen ten percent and urging community programs for jobless youth while Mrs Fred Boyd and Mrs Johanson provided music and tea.

Concord-H. Babock Brown Named Pilot for Great Silver Fleet

Concord native Concord-H. Babock Brown, 26, has been employed as pilot for Eastern Air Lines Great Silver Fleet. Capt. E. V. Rickenpaxer announced the appointment. Brown traveled across the United States as a boy and attended 10 schools before college. He graduated from Brentwood College in British Columbia and studied at Harvard and the University of California. He began flying as a hobby and pursued it as a career, including stormbound and cross country flying and ferrying for several companies.

Funeral services for Silas A. Bean were held at his home on Pine Street West Concord with burial in Hollow Cemetery. Bean born April 12 1865 in Glover son of Andrew J Bean and Billen Clarke lived in West Concord for about fifty years and was a past master of I C O F. He died suddenly at home of a heart attack.

Two Fires Threaten Concord Business District

Two fires struck West Concord on Friday causing estimated damage near ten thousand dollars. A blaze at the Concord Garnet Mine shed on Commonwealth avenue damaged lint and wool, with losses around six to seven thousand dollars. A second fire near a large barn tied to Chaplin's Filling station led to a roof collapse and sparks, causing about three hundred dollars in damage and electrical line concerns.
