Pine Banks Park Affected By Gypsy Moths In Melrose Malden

Pine Banks park grove decimated by moth outbreak in Malden

The Converse estate plans transfer of Pine Banks park to Malden and Melrose while moth damage continues. State and local officials say 60 large pines have fallen to infestation, with 14 to 20 men at work and calls for more manpower. A portable saw mill and timber sale are proposed as cheaper alternatives. Public outings have been halted as brown wounds cover the grounds. Governors and entomologists warn other pine groves to act now to prevent further losses.
