Maynard Town Meeting Opens With 61 Articles On Warrant

The Maynard annual town meeting begins next Monday at George Washington Auditorium with Moderator Philip Wilson presiding at 7 20 PM. The warrant lists 61 articles totaling 510000, many debated, most backed by the Finance Committee which urges voters to familiarize themselves with each item beforehand. Article 38 proposes an annual sewer charge from January 1 1950 payable semi annually by sewer users to cover maintenance and debt, a plan at issue amid concerns it shifts costs to property owners and faces lengthy discussion. An appropriation of 9018000 for higher town department wages retroactive to January 1 1949 is also on the table, opposed by the Finance Committee amid broader New England cost of living concerns and current mill conditions.
