Large Grange Meeting Draws Hundreds to Hudson Town Hall

A vast gathering of grangers met in Hudson with about 300 attendees from Hudson and neighboring towns. Morning talks featured George L. Clemence of Southbridge on dairy farming, followed by a bountiful luncheon at Odd Fellows hall. George M. Whitaker of Our Grange Homes spoke on the Babcock milk tester in the afternoon.

Ephraim Bull and the Concord grape legacy

An obscure Massachusetts man, Ephraim Bull, is honored as a public benefactor for creating the Concord grape. Beginning in 1840 in Concord, he pursued native US vines after failed experiments with European varieties, planting seeds to breed a hardy grape that now boosts American viticulture and land values nationwide.
