The report notes Supt Frank L of Massachusetts and Mrs McCor traveling to Boston today to visit Petty Officer McCormack on Navy sea duty. They plan to reach Carl Rand Old Bridge Road in Long Beach around 5254 Verdura Eastern Star. Fire damaged Box 51 Sunday and new officers are noted. repairs and ads follow.
Seventeen members of the class of 1903 and three teachers gathered at Gardner W. Lawrence’s camp off Monument Street for the 50th reunion. The 52 attendees shared box lunches, ice cream, coffee, and punch, with greetings from absentees across the country.
Firemen were dispatched to a reported fire on Tuesday at Mt Street. The alarm, the third of the night, triggered quick responses from the local unit, with Tuttle reporting details as crews secured the scene.
Miss Beverly N Gerow a Grade 3 teacher at Alcott School has been chosen to serve American military and civilian personnel in Europe for a year on leave of absence granted by the Concord School Committee.
Concord officers of the Lions Club were installed at a ladies night at the Mansion Inn in Cheswold. Past President Lawrence F. Peterser inducted the new slate as dancing followed. New officers include Leonard Rae as president and Robert B. Lortz as first vice president.
Concord announces a summer program with baseball and softball for boys and girls, trips to Whalom Park, and Wednesday movies at 1 40. Hours run 9 30 to 12 00 and 1 40 to 4 00 with a nominal fee.
Joseph M. Carroll, native of Great Falls Montana, will assist Supt Morrill and study for a doctorate at Harvard. He holds a BA from Northwestern and an MA from Harvard and will help with transportation and other issues during the coming year. Business surveys show a shift to bright colored cars with only 10 percent black last year compared to 26 percent in 1941.
Staff Sergeant George Sablone of Concord receives a letter of thanks from Cho Tonk Wook Director of Sonyeon Haiwon Orphanage in Korea for his help to displaced children. The 10 year wartime veteran hopes for a 90 day furlough and his unit mailing address is given as 7th Comm Squad A P O San Francisco.
West Concord reports Mrs Ethel Dalton of Old Bedford Road is the new grand regent of Court of Our Lady Help of Christians C D A at the annual meeting succeeding Mrs Agnes Connors. Other new officers include Vice regent Nancy Dee historian Frances Kilmartin lecturer Josephine Pageau financial secretary Fannie Driscoll treasurer Margaret Dickey monitor Emma Tombeno sentinel Anne Baptiste Prophetess Mary Brown trustees Mrs Connors past regent and Frances Dolan past regent.
Concord learns Ralph D. McLeary, former Concord public schools superintendent, earned tenure at Plainfield New Jersey where he has led the district for three years. He received his doctorate at Harvard’s annual commencement as class top man with all A’s. He returned to Concord as guest of Superintendent Radcliffe Morrill while en route to a Rangely Maine summer home.
Concord residents are reminded of a flower show at the library tomorrow and Saturday with public judging. Entries are due by 11 AM tomorrow and must be removed by 5 PM Saturday. Chairman Mrs. Charles L. Foote leads with assistants including Mrs. H Fraser Leith and others.
West Concord superintendent of schools and Mrs Morrill attended the Bard College alumni reunion in Annandale on Hudson New York last weekend. Morrill as secretary of class 128 celebrated the 25th anniversary reunion of his class.
Miss Romaine Ladensack Pushee wed Will G. Metz Jr. son of Mr and Mrs William G Metz of Buffalo Wyoming at the First Parish Church in Weston on Saturday June 20. The bride the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Horton Pushee of Weston is a Concord Academy graduate. The couple will reside in Buffalo.
The second bidding round for painting in Concord public schools opened Monday afternoon. John H. Kennedy of The Paint Pot at 23 Main Street was the low bidder and won the contract. His bid fell within the budgeted funds for the project.
Patricia A Morrill daughter of Mr and Mrs Radcliffe Morrill of 354 Main Street Concord graduates from Colby College Waterville Maine with a bachelor of arts degree at the annual commencement on June 15 and plans to enter social service. She is a Concord High School alumna class of 1949.
Fremont County Sheriff C A McDougall reported his Lander jail crowded with those accused of passing worthless checks. He urged local merchants to be cautious at least until the crowd thins out.
Concord Council No 287 Knights of Columbus reelected J Wetherbee as grand knight at Monument Hall. The slate includes John J Sheehan as deputy grand knight Richard E Bedford as warden and John F Donovan as chancellor. Installation to occur in September with date to be announced.
Concord Rotary Club hosted Bertram F. Collins of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts as guest speaker at a noon meeting and luncheon. President Robert D. Parks led the business session at Howard Johnson restaurant while Harold N. Clarke filed Maynard makeup.
West Concord couple Mr and Mrs Murdock MacLeod of 504 Main Street observed their 34th wedding anniversary on Sunday June 21 Mrs MacLeod is the former Cora McClellan Mr MacLeod works for Concord Municipal Light Plant.
After a joint Bedford Concord meeting the Concord School Committee said Concord High will refuse tuition pupils from Bedford after 1953 and from Lincoln after 1984 due to overcrowding. Bedford may pursue a regional junior high with Carlisle while Lincoln pupils have long attended Concord or Weston or Waltham.
Capt John Blake of the Massachusetts State Police described the rescue and salvage operations after the disaster affecting the Worcester Helen area. He praised Brig Gen Otis M Whitney for directing the statewide response and said Whitney helped at the scene for hours, even pitching in himself.
Concord-Miss M V Biggy director of freea education in the Concord schools was awarded a doctor of education at Boston University commencement. She completed the degree last September with a thesis on spelling methods and now holds extensive data in spelling research. Warren G Harding was the first president to broadcast by radio.
