Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Beardsell of Concord were held at St. Bernard's Church after a Route 2 crash near Lincoln. Mrs. Beardsell died at Emerson Hospital. her husband died on the operating table. A third person, William J. Sullivan of Cambridge, faced critical injuries. The Beardsells leave two daughters and multiple relatives. Police and state investigators led the probe at the West Concord barracks and scene sites.
Mrs. Robert Clapp found her pet parakeet bonding with the family cat Tabby after she returned from shopping. The odd pair formed a friendship that led to the bird staying as a household member.
Concord residents may pay town bills at the Harvey Wheeler School on Main Street entrance in West Concord starting July 11 and then every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The schedule may change with business volume and residents should bring their bills.
A Concord man Pvt Charles P Allen of Wilson Road begins six months active duty training at Fort Knox Kentucky. He is among 40 Massachusetts youths arriving for basic training this month. After basic training he will take two weeks leave then eight weeks of training in his military specialty followed by eight months on the job. Upon completion he will return home and complete his enlistment with HH Det 395th Chemical Battalion.
Concord election notices announce the final of public hearings by the school elementary facilities committee. Friday night at 8 o clock the Wells A Hall Memorial Auditorium hosts the session presided by Julian W Ballou. The hearing is open to all voters and this marks the fifth such meeting with most reports appearing in the Enterprise.
William F. Harris a 25 year old technician at Lincoln Laboratory Bedford was killed when his car left the road on Lowell road Concord struck a tree He was a first lieutenant in the Army Reserves due to report for a 15 day tour at Fort Hamilton New York June 24 His home was Crum West Virginia He was single and lived in Lincoln Also noted were two other automobile fatalities and two drownings in the area in the past four days.

A Brookline physician, Dr. Bertha Ottenstein aged about 63, drowned Sunday afternoon at White Pond Concord while among 1000 bathers. She collapsed in two to three feet of water and was revived unsuccessfully by bystanders, firemen, and police. autopsy cited drowning with no foul play suspected. Dr. Ottenstein, a dermatologist and chemist with New England Medical Center, had fled Germany during the Nazi era and settled in the U.S. about a decade ago.
Henry Folsom a 25 year old Avon man and father of two drowned at White Pond during frog swimming with Burlington and Bedford friends. He entered with air tanks and gear, surfaced helmet off, then sank again. rescue attempts failed. Death ruled accidental drowning. body taken to Mat Rae Funeral Home.
The town reports that contract for the old North Bridge has been awarded by state highway commissioner John Volpe to Lexington firm Williams. Work will begin immediately to rebuild the bridge in a near replica of 1775 using wood to replace the hurricane damaged 1955 structure.
