Hundreds of residents visited Sudbury town hall for the garden club’s second flower show titled Sudbury Gardens grade. Exhibits filled both floors of the new town hall with elaborate displays by the club and local florists. A tea garden arrangement drew generous praise, and organizers credited Mrs Paul Whitney Roades and Mrs Charles Capon for their leadership.

Eagle Scout Harvey Dunn Earns Highest Rank in Acton
Harvey Winfield Dunn of West Acton Troop, born in Swampscott, recently earned the Eagle Scout badge. He joined the troop in 1928, became First Class in 1929, Star in 1951, Life in 1932, and received the Eagle in June. He will start senior year at Acton High and aims to study civil engineering and become an assistant scoutmaster. In 1931 Eagle awards totaled 8976 from 1,266,663 members.

West Concord firefighters answered a Wednesday alarm for a blaze in the workshop and garage of H S Hinman at 502 Main Street. The workshop was ruined and the garage badly damaged with an estimated loss of 700 dollars.

A Maynard residence at 19 Third Street owned by Michael Bresh was struck by lightning during a heavy storm on Friday night. The bolt entered via the radio antenna, ripped dining room panels, and charred curtains. Frances Bresh, 19, was stunned but later treated at a neighbor’s. Fire alarms failed, fuses blown. new fuses installed. A separate tree on Summer Hill was struck and extinguished by rain. no other damage reported.
