Hoof Powder as Swine Feed Considered Practical?
Ground hogs hooves may become a protein supplement for animal feed when finely ground and mixed with other proteins but likely not practical as the sole protein source. Studies by Gordon Newell and C A Elvehjem at the University of Oklahoma show hoof powder must comprise about 30 percent of the ration to affect chick growth and pairs well with soybean oil meal. processing methods must be standardized and hog hoof powder not yet produced commercially due to labor and equipment limits.
