Most Rev Richard J Cushing Arch bishop of Boston has purchased the Edward S Pratt properties at 50 52 Main Street Concord for educational purposes The sale to the Catholic Diocese of Boston was announced by James W Powers local realtor and finalized with His Excellency at his Brighton home The deal includes a large house former livery stable and a smaller residence with over five acres The purchase may affect Concord elementary school plans voted at the previous town meeting and slated for fall 1951
A party hosted by Henry A Laughlin at Monument street celebrated the betrothal of Miss Marie C Gooding and John M Eaton Jr. A guest list included Henry A Laughlin Jr as usher and Harry Marsharen’s orchestra provided music. The couple will marry at St Theresa’s church in Rye Beach New Hampshire.
Mr and Mrs Alexander Reid celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Formerly of Great Road, they now reside in Maynard. Family and close friends gather at their West Concord home for the observance on July 21, 1900.
John Olsen of 20 Riverside Avenue and his wife marked their golden wedding anniversary on Monday night with a neighborhood gathering at their home. The couple, married July 10, 1900, have lived in West Congo for 30 years and were joined by son Bean of West Congo and three grandchildren. Both are in good health and received many gifts and messages of good will.
About 60 members and guests met at Ray Harris's home Route 27 North Acton for a cookout and program. It launched the Concord Lions Club's summer outdoor series under new president Chaffee with plans for future cookouts at Gardner W. Lawrence's camp and Musketaquid Sportsmen's Club. Visiting guest Rep Edward De Monument attended along with Miss Gele, who are spending the summer in Paris.
Concord area volunteers in the Emer son Hospital program for the year are welcomed by the nursing group. For the first time a uniform in chambray with white is issued, giving the aides a very official look. The group includes Nancy Chase, Piper, Helen S Concord, Barbara Atkins, Ann Marie Beaulieu, Jean ay gne, Joyce Conant, Predell, Deena Jane, Kim Littleton, Judy Bila, Sandra Stewart Wayland, and Penny Henderson.
Commander David B. Williams of the James J. Mansfield Post in Concord reports the Concord post has the largest numerical membership increase in Massachusetts as of July 1. The post nearly doubles its 1950 six month total and aims to hold first place for the year.
Rev. and Mrs. Ed ward Perry Daniels of 28 Walden street will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on Thursday July 28 in Concord. Daniels serves at the First Parish Church and is the town’s oldest active clergyman after arriving in June from Santa Barbara California. The couple married in Bellevue Pennsylvania and have two daughters one son and several grandchildren. Daniels also serves as chaplain of the Concord Fire Department.
Concord Laurence A Murray, chairman of the General Building Committee, announced that Santini & Sons Inc of Arlington was the low bidder on the project at $55,577. The building will be a factory type with modern decking for the roof and the project will take about four months. A second note mentions a chemical base discovered by a British crew in attempts to boost oat yields.
Concord Highway Department will lay a new macadam surface on Main street Route 62 from hospital corner to West Concord. The project will cause delays on Mill Dam work as road crews will not start until Route 62 is finished.
Concord Rotary Club met at the Howard Johnson restaurant with President Gordon H. Ogilvie presiding. Samuel G. Kent introduced guests and announced makeups as Paul Weh spoke on political indoctrination of Soviet youth.
There was no meeting of the James J. Mansfield Post A L No 158 last night as no summer meetings are planned. The next gathering will be the annual election and installation of officers on September 13. Local members plan the annual convention to be held August 19 at Cambridge. Delegates include Thomas J Hayes Arthur W Parke Bregoli Edward R Kelly Mrs E O Neil and Arthur Wood.
The Concord Community Chest prepares its annual October campaign with Gilbert M. Rody as general chairman and Enig ht Lawton and Henry S. Drinker as business chairmen guiding the drive despite the summer lull in activity.
Concord fire department reports 111 alarms this year, surpassing the same period last year. Increase signals rising demand on emergency services as responders handle more calls.
Concord Council Knights of Columbus held its summer outing at Tyngsboro Recreation Grounds with nearly 140 attendees. Past Grand Knight Martin Diskin chaired the prize committee. Grand Knight James Powers welcomed guests. prize categories included chair, bed spread, electric iron, ashtrays, and luncheon items awarded to local members and guests.
The Red Cross calls for volunteers to supervise children in water at Wamserseve mornings 10 to 11. Trained teachers are needed in the water to spot and check each child before and after immersion. Call the Red Cross Office from 10 am to 5 pm at Concord 259 or 1022 to volunteer.
Concorni Mr and Mrs Clark V Doty of 12 Laurel street will celebrate 11 years of marriage on Saturday July 15 They wed at Tr Congregational Church with Wilfrid Herrick Bunker officiating The couple have two children Mrs Doty was born Aljean Nyland.
The National Society of Thoreau admirers gathers in Concord for its annual meeting begun in 1941. Dr. Raymond Adams will preside and speak on Early and Overlooked Defense of Thoreau, with Walter Harding discussing Some Uncollected Letters.

The Lawton Prolenes Co will close on Saturdays through Labor Day. The closure applies to Waldren Street location starting this Saturday July 1.
