Concord selects Dr. Ronald B. Sinclair as chairman of the School Committee at the annual meeting. Sinclair, a General Radio Corporation engineer, has served five years on the panel and lives on Crescent Road with three children in Concord schools. Winthrop H. Lee steps down after three years and remains a member. Mrs. Ernest Spinney is reelected secretary.
The Thoreau Club gathers in Concord this Saturday at 10 30 AM in the vestry of the First Parish Unitarian Church. Professor Herbert F West of Dartmouth College will speak on Thoreau and the Younger Generation and Professor Kenneth A Rob inson of Dartmouth will discuss Thoreau and the Wildtiter. Officers meet at 1 PM and a luncheon follows with afternoon tours of Thoreau memorials.
James Fava of Maynard and Ralph Thileen a patrolman on Cofrant street West Concord will spend this weekend at Squam Lake New Hampshire for a two week vacation with family.
Town manager Theodore M. Nelson says bids may be asked before month end for a new combine police and fire station on Heywood and Walden streets on town land. The $305,000 project was first approved at the March 1955 town meeting, delayed a year by the general building committee, and re voted last March.
The Concord Municipal Light Board records the retirement of Dennis S. Horne after 45 years with the Light Plant. He earned recognition for his readiness to help in emergencies and his devotion to duties. The board wishes him many happy retirement years.

Concord Mrs Alexander Peters and Principal John Donovan of the high school planning committee attended the Harvard Summer School conference on educational administration in Cambridge July 9 and 10. The dinner on July 9 included Winthrop Lee and Mrs Ernest Spinney of the school committee and Raymond Travis from the superintendent's office. Harold C Hunt, undersecretary in HEW, spoke on As it Looks from Washington.
A Littleton Lions Club social evening and cookout took place at Ray Harris home Route 27 North Acton. President George Kimball led the business session and attended Concord Lions Club meeting as plans begin for a joint event with Concord and Acton.
Coast Guard Cadet John L. Wheeler, 19, son of West Concord residents, sails as a junior at the Coast Guard Academy aboard the practice squadron of 325 cadets. They began June 11 from New London and will call San Juan Havana and Coco Solo during the first phase ending July 14.
Concord Lions Club opened the year with a cookout at Ray Harris home North Acton under President Edward Holt presiding. A board session preceded the meal and Holt announced committees for a busy 15th year with plans for an active slate.
Theodore M. Nelson notes 210 juror forms sent out with 184 returned by the July 2 deadline. Recipients must complete forms under law or risk prosecution as the board prepares to select the new jury list by August 1.
As of Tuesday Concord firemen reported 146 fire alarms and 142 ambulance calls surpassing the totals for the same period last year.
