Playgrounds Offer Variety of First Week Activities

Concord High School Graduate Returns from Overseas Duty
West Concord reports Sergt John C Delian Jr son of Reformatory resident John Dolan and Mrs Olan of Elm Street has returned from 20 months overseas. He arrived Saturday and plans to fly home this week. Delian enlisted after his 1948 Concord High School diploma and has served 22 months with 20 overseas, much of his time in the Pacific theater.

Lone casualty of holiday event in Concord
A four day K of C program ended with Walter L O Neil Jr, seven, of 518 Main Street West Concord suffering a broken leg in two places after being knocked down by a bicyclist before the celebration. He was treated at Emerson Hospital and was reported on the road to recovery.

Firefighter Dies After Fall From Aerial Ladder at Cary Mansion
George G. Whiting, 52, a call firefighter and Lexington slaughter inspector, died after falling about 40 feet from Lexington's 85 foot aerial ladder while preparing to fight a fire at the old Cary Mansion on Cary Avenue. He left a wife, one daughter, two sons, and his father, all of Lexington, plus two sisters. His wife is the former Martian Emily Robus, sister of William A. Robus of 17 Riverside avenue, West Concord.
