Gypsy moth threat eyed for 1954 in Massachusetts
Extension officials warn the gypsy moth could become serious in 1954 as eggs survive mild winters. Massachusetts areas such as Barnstable Plymouth Groton Townsend and towns along the Billerica Tewksbury line report new infestations. A statewide control plan with airplane spraying May 1 to June 15 and funding of about 600 000 is urged to prevent widespread defoliation and tree losses.
