Late veteran honored by Hubs mayor in Boston ceremony
Concord resident and U S Navy Pharmacist Mate 3 James E. Smith was killed in Korea just before turning 22 and was honored posthumously along with 29 other Boston servicemen. Mayor Hynes awarded certificates citing gratitude to the families. Smith had lived at 10 Elmhurst Street Dorchester and worked at Richardson Drug Store prior to service. Rene Bourquin of Middlesex School will judge a French essay contest at Jordan Marsh on February 26.

Concord and West Concord dog owners are reminded by town clerk Mrs Cornelia Lawrence that all pets must be licensed on or before March 31. Noncompliance will lead to prosecution as the community notes 800 plus dogs in Concord with past licensing totals showing growth from 645 in 1948 to 847 in 1949.

The cornerstone ceremony for the Concord Cooperative Bank was held last Saturday morning at the Walden street site despite near freezing temperatures. Gordon H.
