Railroads Accused of Stifling Coal Competition in Nation
Washington reports Representative Gillespie attempted to insert a letter from the Siluitineous Coal Trades League into the House record alleging a coal railroads cartel blocks independent operators. The letter, prepared by Drane, claims Pennsylvania Railroad and related firms fix markets, delay tendered coal, and profit from discrimination against small mines. It seeks interstate commerce reform empowering monitors to curb rate and shipping abuses.
