A New York feature surveys Mrs. Frances Willard centenary events and WW U leadership figure Mrs. Boole, famed as W C T U president, plus remarks on drys’ comeback. It notes Dr. Donald A. Laird’s prolific research output and his sleep and noise findings as he retires from Colgate.
Edward F Wright is appointed plumbing inspector for the city. The notice lists Wright as the new municipal official responsible for building and plumbing code enforcement.
Concord High School presents Seven Sisters in the school auditorium Friday and Saturday February 10 and 11 at eight o clock. Miss Gertrude Rideout leads the cast with a four teen ensemble. Miss Florence Brown heads the stage committee and Hungarian properties are being prepared. Dexter handles lighting while professional service manages costumes. Miss Helen Wilson oversees business details and advance ticket sales look strong. Tickets available from any high school pupil. doors open to all with present tickets.
The Emerson Hospital Aid Society announces its annual meeting on Monday evening February 13, 1939 at 8 o'clock at the Nurses' Home. All members invited. Nominating committee presents officers for 1940 and 1941 including President Mrs Henry A Laughlin and other officers and members from West Concord and Concord to fill unexpired terms due to moves.
Concord notes a simple funeral for John H P Kenyon at Mount Auburn in Cambridge. The 72 year old poet author and retired Universalist minister was found dead Sunday afternoon in his hermitage on Weat ford road. Rev Francis W Pritchard officiated and cremation followed with ashes scattered over water by relatives.
Concord hosts Daniel J. Doherty former national commander of the American Legion as a guest speaker at the C. ED. A. banquet. The event highlights his leadership and ties to veterans groups.
Otis M. Whitney of Waltham was commissioned as First Lieutenant in Company F 182nd Infantry Massachusetts National Guard. He previously served four years in the MT at Fort Devens, joined Concord Company H as an enlisted man in 1980, was later commissioned in Lowell, returned to Concord, and is a 1988 Massachusetts Military Academy graduate and Fort Benning Infantry School alumnus. His duties include two evenings weekly in Waltham.
Concord High School held a year opening debate with RN team in a public finale session. The negative side won while the Concord affirmative featured Elmer Stryon James Hawks with Walter Kaveteky John Oasis Carolyn McKenzie and Jen Cairman.
The Old Concord Chapter D A R elected officers and hosted Rev Lawrence L Barber of Arlington who spoke on New England influences on Abraham Lincoln. He noted Lincoln’s ties to 1619, cited Lincoln's ancestors and wartime roles, and described influences from Greeley Stowe and Brown. Tea followed served by Mrs Albert Black and hostesses.
Owing to limited space and the large number of paintings submitted, Mrs. Faversham has divided her exhibition into two parts to accommodate all works.
The AW West Concord Woman's Club Education Committee chaired by Mrs Allen hosted an informal reception. Mrs Burleigh accompanied a soloist as Mrs Charles Thomas of Arlington described a Guatemala trip with colored films and a Mayan costume. Coffee was served by Mrs George Walker's committee.
Maynard Woman's club announces a program on February 14 at 2 30 PM at the K of C hall featuring five chats on Whats What Among the New Books. Mrs. William Cameron plans a George Washington party and a long list of club officers and committee members are named.
At the annual Concord Redana Gun Club meeting, members voted to hold the Lanqgnet banquet in February. A committee led by Te Swan, DD Servais, John J Thomas Tombeno and others was formed to arrange the event at the Veterans Hall in the evening.

Concord Lodge of Charity held a January 27 gathering at the Hike home with Edward F. Wright and Lew Cashman in charge. Prizes awarded included 6 to John Murphy of Concord and 20 to Dick Cox of Billerica, with many other 6, 2, and 10 prizes going to residents of Concord, Billerica, Allston, Cambridge, Beverly, Pittsfield, and surrounding towns.
Mr. and Mrs. William Faversham Jr won the mixed doubles badminton title in Boston to become Massachusetts champions. They defeated Wayne Shell and Miss Eleanor Collier in straight games 16 6 and 16 10. The Favershams impressed with strong net play and also beat John Garred and Evelyn Pelta in the quarterfinals.
Beharrell Brothers purchased a Main Street land parcel near the Ven cord Turnpike for an eleven home project. The plan includes Colonial design houses with five to six rooms and basement rumpus room, electric kitchens, and Walter OS Een Whetet to begin around April first.
Troop 8 and Ship 9 celebrate the second anniversary with a Father and Sons banquet at Union Church West Concord. Charles Francia Adams, namesake of Ship 49, hoped to return from the South for the event. Kenneth Picard of New England Telephone will present hurricane moving pictures and Scout demonstrations are planned. A reception for Dr Dow at Brighton closes the day. Services Sunday include a 10:45 morning mass and a 10:40-45 service at Went Concord Union Church.
The Women's Parish Association staged O Keefe's Circuit on Friday at 8 PM in the house. Cast included Mrs Randolph Piper Mrs Edward P Daniele and Mrs Bowand B Caiger in a one act play titled Wrong Numbers. Committee members listed include Mrs Robert M Bowen chairman and other named ladies.
The Boston Hadalnton League women’s division saw a three way tie for first after a Thursday clean sweep over West. Scores show Faversham and Hoare over Martin and Tenney 9 16 15 0 1 1648, Laughlin over Soule 14 7 1642, Lowthlin and Denio over Mereod and Edgerly 16 10 16413.
Concord tops Class A field in a eight club badminton league from Mattapan with a 26 win 28 loss tally. Thursday results show Paversham Albion and Wood scored for Concord while others fell. Janes Smith, Wood and Bodfish led wins over Horan Sinclair and Christiansen with scores listed in the chaotic match notes.
Thomas Hollis Jr and Miss Alice T Lee among a dozen automotion owners named as defendants in a Sanita filing in district court Saturday for Towell couple Mr and Mrs Paul Menare seeking $260000 in damages from the Turnpike crash in January.
