Emerson Hospital Aid Society Annual Meeting Notice

The Emerson Hospital Aid Society announces its annual meeting on Monday evening February 13, 1939 at 8 o'clock at the Nurses' Home. All members invited. Nominating committee presents officers for 1940 and 1941 including President Mrs Henry A Laughlin and other officers and members from West Concord and Concord to fill unexpired terms due to moves.

John Kenyon Laid To Rest In Mount Auburn

Concord notes a simple funeral for John H P Kenyon at Mount Auburn in Cambridge. The 72 year old poet author and retired Universalist minister was found dead Sunday afternoon in his hermitage on Weat ford road. Rev Francis W Pritchard officiated and cremation followed with ashes scattered over water by relatives.

Concord officer Whitney receives First Lieutenant commission

Otis M. Whitney of Waltham was commissioned as First Lieutenant in Company F 182nd Infantry Massachusetts National Guard. He previously served four years in the MT at Fort Devens, joined Concord Company H as an enlisted man in 1980, was later commissioned in Lowell, returned to Concord, and is a 1988 Massachusetts Military Academy graduate and Fort Benning Infantry School alumnus. His duties include two evenings weekly in Waltham.

Concord Wins Both Sides of School Debate

Concord High School held a year opening debate with RN team in a public finale session. The negative side won while the Concord affirmative featured Elmer Stryon James Hawks with Walter Kaveteky John Oasis Carolyn McKenzie and Jen Cairman.

Lincoln influences highlighted at Old Concord meeting

The Old Concord Chapter D A R elected officers and hosted Rev Lawrence L Barber of Arlington who spoke on New England influences on Abraham Lincoln. He noted Lincoln’s ties to 1619, cited Lincoln's ancestors and wartime roles, and described influences from Greeley Stowe and Brown. Tea followed served by Mrs Albert Black and hostesses.

Concord Lodge of Charity held a January 27 gathering at the Hike home with Edward F. Wright and Lew Cashman in charge. Favershams Are Cha Cha Champions in Massachusetts

Mr. and Mrs. William Faversham Jr won the mixed doubles badminton title in Boston to become Massachusetts champions. They defeated Wayne Shell and Miss Eleanor Collier in straight games 16 6 and 16 10. The Favershams impressed with strong net play and also beat John Garred and Evelyn Pelta in the quarterfinals.

Beharrell Brothers Buy Main Street Land for Eleven Colonial Homes

Beharrell Brothers purchased a Main Street land parcel near the Ven cord Turnpike for an eleven home project. The plan includes Colonial design houses with five to six rooms and basement rumpus room, electric kitchens, and Walter OS Een Whetet to begin around April first.

Father Son Banquet Tonight Marks Scout Anniversary

Troop 8 and Ship 9 celebrate the second anniversary with a Father and Sons banquet at Union Church West Concord. Charles Francia Adams, namesake of Ship 49, hoped to return from the South for the event. Kenneth Picard of New England Telephone will present hurricane moving pictures and Scout demonstrations are planned. A reception for Dr Dow at Brighton closes the day.
