Bedford Notes On War Time Parade And Local News
Edward Wash traveled from Camp Devens over the weekend. Residents witnessed the Boy Scout parade in Boston on Saturday. Bedford Grammar School students will have a Christmas vacation next week. Edward Hunnewett of the U S Naval station at Hingham visited his parents on Main Street. Sunday was the coldest day of the season with thermometers at 10 below in parts of town. A special service will be held at St Michael's church on the third Friday each month for the benefit of the boys at the front. War conditions will shorten the usual Christmas school celebration, limited to first and second grades. Robert Winsor, Halifax Relief Fund treasurer, announced sufficient subscriptions to relieve Halifax suffering. Middlesex & Boston tracks opened after delays from the storm, but Bay State line to Lowell remained closed for a time. Mrs Dudley Pickman was among patrons at a sale of articles made by interned allied soldiers held at the Chandler store on Tremont Street.
