Many Contests in Bay State Turn to Democracy in Mayor Elections
Massachusetts cities held crowded mayoral races with three to five contenders in 15 cities. Chelsea elected James H. Malone despite a wet vote, Worcester chose D. F. OConnell over Republican successor, and Newburyport stayed dry while Lynn and Medford kept liquor restrictions. Other results included Malden, Melrose, Everett, Somerville, and Woburn electing or re-electing mayors amid dense race fields.
