Largest freight cars pass through Hoosac Tunnel
The Boston & Maine Railroad opened the enlarged 5 mile Hoosac Tunnel enabling passage of the biggest freight cars on both east and west bound tracks. The upgrade, including Littl Tunnel clearances, boosts efficiency by cutting 24 to 36 hours on some shipments and allows simultaneous bidirectional operation.
