Four Priests Hurt In Near Head On Sunday Accident

Four Marist Fathers were injured in a near head on collision on Route 126 near Walden Pond in Concord last Sunday. Driver Robert Church 21 of Billerica faces charges of driving under the influence and endangering others after his car struck the priests’ vehicle. Father Joseph W Demers 51 of Methuen suffered serious chest injuries and broken ribs, while Father Emil Fages 73 also from Methuen had a broken left knee. both were moved to hospitals and later to St Elizabeth’s in Brighton. The priests were en route to a retreat when the crash occurred as Church reportedly tried to return home after a high school reunion.

Veteran Wife of Frederick Belmont Dies at 21

Concord notes the private funeral at Bigelow Chapel Mount Auburn for Elizabeth Sophia Kean Belmont age 21 wife of Frederick G Belmont a Navy veteran who died after a brief illness at Emerson Hospital. Cremation followed service. Born January 30 1925 in Concord she leaves husband daughter Diane 16 months plus brothers Lt David W US Navy and Richard Kean and father William C Kean all of Concord.

Runaway Horse Trampled Two Acres on Monument Farm

Concord-Jessie Windhel, a high school girl, narrowly escaped injury last week when she toppled a runaway horse on her Monument street farm. She quelled the animal after it trampled two acres of land and spoiled some farm tops.

Emerson Hospital selects Perry Shaw Hepburn for long range plans

The Emerson Hospital board on July 29 named Perry Shaw Hepburn of Boston as architects to collaborate with hospital consultants James A. Hamilton and Associates. The firm, already connected to Isham Infirmary and Beatrice Weeks Memorial Hospital projects, will help design expansion plans reflecting Concord and surrounding towns needs.

Vets Not Required to Pay 1946 Poll Tax in Concord

Concord veterans of World War II discharged in 1945 or later are not obliged to pay their 1946 poll taxes. Town treasurer Thomas F. Garrity Jr notes eligible veterans can apply to have the bill erased, easing bookkeeping. Those who qualify may contact the treasurer’s office or apply via a bank.

Concord Fireman Clears Small Blaze After Cigarette Toss

Concord firefighter Thomas Tombeno from Central Station responded to a Sunday night blaze caused by youths tossing a cigarette butt or lighting a rubbish container at Walden and Main. Tombeno doused the fire near a Main Street drugstore. it was the 157th alarm of the year.

Concord Concord. Council Knights of Columbus plans an outing likely on October 6 at Stow Country Club possibly with Maynard and Hudson Councils joining. VFW Plans Penny Sale in Concord This Week

Concord post No. 6537 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars announces a large penny sale with many prizes to be held Thursday August 29 likely at the Veterans Building. Additional details and prize lists will be released next week. The group may also sponsor a Columbus Day Eve ball October 11 with more plans discussed at the next meeting.

Concord Hearing On Housing Yields Mixed Views

About fifty citizens attended a State Board of Housing hearing at the Veterans Building in Concord. Veterans argued a housing shortage exists, while a respondent claimed none. The Board will study the issue and report to the Concord Veterans Housing Committee with findings and recommendations.
