Community notices mix during August meeting and local events

Hatcherymen and Central Pomona plan their annual night August meeting of selectmen set for Tuesday at 4 in the town house. The State Guard Band rehearses Monday evening at the Armory with Harry Neilsen in charge. Callahan of Lexington enjoys his annual Boston duties. Christian church lesson Sunday features Was Dorothy Stewart on Home Canning with a Women's group, plus another speaker Monday on the same subject. State Guard drills next Monday at the Armory with Lieut. Joseph Barr. Weather outlook for outdoor sessions at White Pond and Wallie Hill attracts a large crowd. Red Cross and Concord branch to hold weekly meeting at the old Concord building. The People's Society Free Church observes night service at 3 o'clock.

Advice for Yule Mailing of Packages

Concord relatives urged to mail Christmas packages to service members overseas following war department guidance. Packets must fit 10 by 6 by 4 inches and weigh no more than five pounds with up to 15 inches in length and 36 inches in girth. Packages may require recipient requests between September 15 and October 15. War Production Board approved stronger boxes for overseas transit to withstand harsh handling and climates.

Pro Burial High Mass Held for Sgt Herbert McPhillips

A pro burial high mass was celebrated at St Bernard's church at 9 am Tuesday for Staff Sgt Herbert James McPhillips U S Army Air Corps killed in action July 8 1944 over radio. Relatives attended. He is the fifth parish boy to die in action in World War I and World War II. He was one of five sons of Mrs Jane McPhillips Hawthorne Lane, all overseas veterans.

Concord Lions Hold Annual Outing and Dinner

The Concord Lions Club hosted its fourth annual outing and cookout at Memorial Street Beaulieu Dr MacRae area last Tuesday. A brief business session followed a meal with members grilling. Leon J.
