Maynard audience to hear Sheridan's orchestra on air as WNAC Boston and WBS confer with Frank Sheridan, famed leader. Two possible dates in May and on May 30 at Lyon Marlboro are discussed while the fully booked group waits for a final broadcasting choice.
George Minot Baker longtime Concord resident died at his home Three Acres Elm street after a three year illness. Born in Lincoln April 24 1855 he moved to Concord to run the Hosmer farm then the Three Acres estate. He served on the Concord Board of Assessors and belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution Middlesex Republican Club and Middlesex Mutual Fire Insurance. He married Ida Marion Chase in 1909. she was state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution at her death last December. He is survived by a brother James Baker of Lincoln. Funeral at Three Acres with Rev Bulkeley and Rev Cyrus Richardson officiating. interment Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
The Trinitarian Church supper committee led by Mrs Charles H Towle served a fine repast to a large crowd on Wednesday evening. After dessert the program featured old songs with tableaux, a male quartet and vocal solos by Elsie Lowden Hubbard and Esther Damon. Hawthorne Chapter Order of the Eastern Star will host a dance in Association Hall on Thursday May 1 with chairwoman Mrs Irving Duren and a committee including Gladys Parke Helen Alien Ruth Pratt Leona Dye Molly Ring and Louise Kingman.
The annual Bazaar under St George's church drew strong crowds on Thursday and Friday, with lively booths and a circus display. Performances included minstrel acts led by Charles Edney, vocal solos by Eva Jamieson and others, and the Maynard Ukulele Club directing Friday's program.
Maynard Council Knights of Columbus to march in a Concord parade Thursday evening. Concord Council opens Bazaar that night. Maynard members with cars to serve asked to assemble at Francis King Square at 6 30 p m. Maynard K of C players postponed drama until Fall due to future engagements.
An automobile reported stolen from Marlboro on April 13 was found deserted on Main Street near the school in Maynard last week. The owner is listed as Benjamin Cianatti of 27 Arnold Street, Marlboro. Marlboro Police also report a Chandler car stolen on the same date. A whist party is set for May 5 at Odd Fellows Hall hosted by Unity Circle F C of A.
Music lovers appreciate Concord Musical Club for two Boston Symphony Orchestra concerts in Town Hall. Afternoon concert for children offered at nominal price, performers praised, with ensemble members listed and works by Rimsky Korsakov Mendelssohn Wagner Liszt among the selections.
Federal agents and state patrol raided the Cricket club at about 10 30 Saturday night seizing nine gallons of whiskey. James and Thomas Murray were released on bonds for federal court appearance in Worcester. The raid, first of its kind here, left club members doubting local involvement and was postponed to May 8 due to federal caseload.
Word reached this week of Claude Haire’s death at his Albany home from pneumonia. A native of this town, he was 27, son of the late James Haire, and leaves a wife and two children in Albany. Burial was in Albany. Also noted are social notices: Miss Florence Danley of Boston stayed with Misses McAvoy, High Street. Mrs. C J Lynch and daughter Julia visiting relatives in New York. Miss Etta Graves bought Mrs. Martin Davis’s Parmenter avenue home. Thomas Schofield moved to Stow with furnishings early this week.
The first carload of cloth for Ford cars was shipped from Assebet Mills to Detroit on Monday. By Thursday five more carloads will be on the rails bound for the Ford plant. Local mills have rushed the April quota with some departments running day and night to meet early shipment.
Oscar Hietala a five year old weaver and boarder at 11 Elm Court shot himself with a 32 caliber revolver just above the eye on Saturday morning. He was found in his room by a family girl and declared dead by the medical examiner. He left four children in Finland.
Sudbury reports Sunday morning services begin at the Unitarian Church with Rev. Mr Wood of Framingham as pastor for the season. An Alliance meeting last week drew seven hundred attendees. Local residents, including Rev and Mrs A J Hall, returned from Winthrop, and others visit family, complete land purchases, and host parties.
The funeral for Andrew W. Murphy of Lowell Road took place Thursday at St Bernard's Church with Solemn High Mass. Burial followed in St Bernard's Cemetery. Survived by wife two daughters Miss Alice Murphy of Stoughton and Miss Ethel Murphy of Concord and two sons Norman of Haverhill and John of Cambridge.
The Concord Union Bible Society met with Mrs. A. B. Black. Thursday afternoon Mrs. Abram Jackson of Livermore Maine a former Concord resident was a guest. Tea at the social hour followed the meeting.
