Hodgdon Leaves for Maine as Mother Illness Binds
G A Hodgdon departed Tuesday for Wassingboro Maine to be with his mother who is seriously ill. Miss Louise Williams returned to her Boston job Monday after a long vacation. The Ladies Auxiliary to Concord Grange held an all day sewing meeting last Wednesday with Mrs Freeland Tuttle reporting much work completed and enjoyed by all.

Floating Hospital Benefit Sets Concord Day Plans
The Floating Hospital Benefit committee reports that the April 20 event raised the full 150 dollars thanks to town cooperation. June 30 will be Concord Massachusetts Day, honoring contributors, ticket sellers, donors, and attendees at the moving pictures.

New People’s Theatre to Open Next Saturday
The People’s theatre, under construction for months, is set to open Saturday April 30. The artistic building features cast stone and tapestry brick exterior, a marquise entry, an ornate interior with rose and gold tones, 500 seats in the orchestra, 250 in the balcony, multiple exits, and a modern ventilation system enabling rapid air changes.

Francis W. Knapp former Marlboro band leader dies
Francis W. Knapp died at his daughter Mrs J W French’s home on Thursday April 21. Funeral services were held Sunday at Acton Center Congregational Church with Marlboro Band members performing The Vacant Chair. Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery West Acton. Born December 31 1835 in Boxboro he organized the Marlboro Brass Band in 1858 and served as its leader through Civil War and beyond. He helped recruit for World War I at nearly eighty. He leaves four daughters nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

County commissioners with selectmen and the streets superintendent viewed Great Road Friday to discuss joint town repairs. A 50 foot road will be laid, requiring land from Eveleth and G Edward White properties. Commissioners will submit a report to the selectmen soon.
