The funeral for Roscoe H. Ale was conducted at his home with Rev. Harry P. Odland officiating. Other local clergy and parish groups announced related services and charitable activities, including evangelism discussions and children's outreach programs in nearby churches and organizations.
Citizens paused normal pursuits as stores closed and entertainment halted for a weekend of solemn tribute to Mr Roosevelt. Hudson Boy Scouts held a memorial at Liberty Square. residents bowed in silence and offered prayers for President Truman as they await his first Congress address this afternoon.
A headline reports a 16th birthday party for Laur ie MacRae, daughter of Mr and Mrs Rothwell N MacRae of Belknap Street. The note adds she is a sophomore at Concorde high school and mentions local youth gathering factors.
Concord Hawthorne chapter O E S observed its golden anniversary on Wednesday night April 11 at Masonic Temple in Concord. Nearly 200 members and guests attended as officers of the grand chapter participated. An early business meeting led by Dorothy Graham, worthy matron, preceded supper for 150 and a reception line for invited guests and officers. Alfonse D. Martin and Rothwell N. MacRae directed the evening’s entertainment.
Mr and Mrs Hans W Miller of 88 Main street observe their thirtieth wedding anniversary. They have lived in town for many years and have three children Barbara Joan and William who is in the Army Air Forces. Mr Miller works with the state OPA.
Miss Grace Shirley Foote daughter of Mrs G Norman Albree of Winchester is engaged to Sergt Stephen Lincoln Smith son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Lincoln Smith of Concord. Foote is a Cord Academy graduate and Mount Holyoke alumna now executive secretary of the Azaz club in Boston. Smith is a Phillips Academy graduate who attended the University of California Berkeley and has served 29 months in Central Africa. he is now stationed at Love Field Dallas Texas.
The Concord Red Cross chapter reports $48,103 raised in the recent United War Fund drive, reaching 127 percent of the town quota. The committee thanks volunteers and contributors for their record support.
Mrs Mary Morse of 3 Morse Pond Lane West Concord died last Friday after a lingering illness at age 50. Born in Galway Ireland she was the wife of Fred C Morse and survived by two daughters Alice and Ethel one son Frederick and three brothers in Ireland. Funeral services were held with a requiem mass at Our Lady Help of Christians and burial followed in St Bernard's Cemetery Con.
Concord high and Lexington high mark Patriot's Day with a 2 pm veterans gathering at the Veterans Building, parade to the Old North Bridge, 3 pm exercises, Paul Revere reenactment by Miss Martha V. Magurh, then a 4 pm Concord-Lexington baseball game at Emerson, followed by a veterans ball the night at the Veterans Building. Local officials and scouts participate.
A high mass of requiem was celebrated Saturday at 10 am at St Joseph's church Medford for Mary A Battles 79 lifelong Concord resident who died Wednesday in Medford. Committal followed at St Bernard's Concord. Attendees included members of the Ladieauxiliary A O of H No 44 Concord. A brother of the late Michael survived by nieces and nephews.

Rotarians hear Horace Arnold discuss The Blue Cross and the Blue Ship at Thursday noon luncheon in the Colonial Inn dining hall. President Albert M. Cottey presided over the business session with Thomas L. Sanborn in charge of luncheon. About 30 members and guests attended.
