John B Gates Dies After Winter in Somerville Home
John B. Gates died at his Somerville home 28 Cherry Street on Wednesday April 7 after moving from Concord last October for the winter. Born in Harmony Nova Scotia in 1884 he came to Massachusetts in 1901 and owned a Barrett's Mill road property since 1905. Known for charitable acts and neighborliness he aided with chimney fires sick animals and other troubles. He is survived by his wife Ethel Clem Gates his son John Claiborne and brothers Frank Gilbert and Parker. Funeral was at 2 pm Sunday by Rev George L Thurlow with burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery.
