New Device Maps River Depths for Flood Project
A portable fathometer was used to chart a profile of the Concord and Sudbury rivers, the first step in a $5,000,000 flood control plan. The device records river bottom contours to identify mud-choked areas for dredging as geologists and SUASCO pursue dam and reservoir construction along upper river reaches.

Cut Corners Safely With Short Length Lumber
DIY builders save by using short lengths of lower grade Douglas fir or western hemlock. The West Coast Lumbermen's Association notes these grades, bought at discount, still provide sufficient strength and stiffness for most home projects.
