The Division of Motor Transportation and the Department of Agriculture announced a voluntary plan to cut farm truck mileage 35 to 50 percent by pooling equipment, eliminating unnecessary trips, and coordinating marketing. Farmers, market gardeners, fruit growers, milk producers, and livestock haulers with about 1.5 million trucks would save tires, fuel, oil, and manpower.
Lieutenant Colonel Paul Murray of 6 Monument Street receives a second promotion within a year to Colonel. He commands Camp Edwards, praised for its popularity and drill, and will report to Fort Benning for a month refresher before joining Fort Meade to activate the 76th division in June. Mrs Murray and Harriet will join him at Fort Meade. Paul Murray Jr. will graduate from Willing College this spring.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth P. Borland, former Concord resident and wife of Charles R. Borland of Cambridge, were held at Mount Auburn Chapel. Rev. Wilfrid Herrick Bun ker of the Trinitarian Congregational Church conducted the service. Cremation followed, with burial in New Jersey. Born November 27, 1860 in Oakland New Jersey, she died Sunday in Concord. She is survived by a son and a daughter. She lived in Concord until about ten years ago before moving to Cambridge.
Judge Prescott Keyes retired Supreme Court justice from 84 Main Street celebrated his 84th birthday quietly at home. A lifelong Concord resident, he was appointed to the Concord bench in 1910 after his father John S. Keyes and remained until his 1930 retirement when Governor Ely named Howard A. Wilson to the post.

In the final New England Revolver League pistol shoot Heyliger topped the field with 282 of 300 as Concord patrolmen, while Foster led overall with 1107 of 1200 in four matches and Heyliger placed runner up at 1105. Team scores show Sergt Witherell 279 and others, team totals 1008 for Team 1 and 963 for Team 2 led by Alfred Baptiste 261 and McCarthy 219.
Mrs Elizabeth Robinson died Tuesday March 24 in Arlington after a long life in Lincoln New Brunswick native. She leaves four daughters a stepdaughter and three sons. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery.
Mrs. Bessie Keyes of 82 Main Street Concord dies at home after a lengthy illness. Widow of Woody Hudson, she is survived by a daughter, brother George Keyes, and two sisters. She served on local boards and led the Louisa May Alcott Memorial Association. Funeral Saturday at her home with Rev. Edward P. Daniels officiating. burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
Soe ala rad A. Davis of Carr road marked his 91st birthday Friday born in Boston and a long time Concord resident. A retired meat and provision dealer for 46 years he remains active driving his car and has many congratulatory messages. He has three sons four daughters and several grandchildren.
Eight men on a handcar carrying rail road workers escaped fatal injury when a Boston bound special train appeared near South Acton station. They leapt clear in seconds, tumbling into a heap but all avoided serious harm. The handcar was dragged onto the cowcatcher for about a hundred feet before stopping near the South Main street bridge.
The Hyvacuations Committee directs a regional blackout in Concord and surrounding areas on April 9 1942 from 9 to 9 as households must darken at least one room with screens or curtains. A town survey monitors cots blankets and emergency readiness with wardens and district chiefs providing guidance.
Concord plans its annual James J. Manefiela Post A G and Ladies Auxiliary supper and frolic at the Veterans Building on Thursday evening April 16. Lydon of Lowell will cater. Department Commander Richard F. Cunningham and Mrs. Walter M. Early will attend. Mary A. Flavin shows a travel color film “Fun in Florida” after supper, followed by dancing to Graham's Orchestra until midnight. Tickets offered by committee before April 13.
Mrs Jane Blair Glen 78 of South Street Carlisle died Monday at home after living in Carlisle twelve years. Born in Scotland she was mother of Mrs Lawrence K Lavt of Valley Lead. Survived by family and services pending.
A solemn high mass was held Monday at 9 a.m. for Cornelius J. Lynch editor of the Maynard Enterprise and former state representative, who died Friday night at his home 91 Nason street. He served Maynard for over thirty years and was mourned by officials and business peers.
A civilian motor corps training course ended with a Dutch Treat supper at the Howard Johnson Colonial Room. Diplomas were awarded to graduates including Dorothy Macone and other women cadets who completed training and become privates. Lieut Letitia Vincent of Mayland attended the exercises.
Jimmy Cullinane, former high school baseball captain, leaves for Barnwell South Carolina to join the Albany Senators of the Eastern Baseball League. He will play third base and bat right handed. Cullinane, 13 Grant Street, was previously property of the Boston Braves.
Mr and Mrs Harvey from Central Street report travel expenses from Tayne Ville Vermont. Mrs Stanford 8 Holder and Ford are involved as residents in Brightlock Johnsbery Vermont where Holder is ill.
Italian immigrant and longtime resident of 30 years at Colbert Avenue died at home on Thursday morning aged 80. He leaves four sons and two daughters. Funeral held in Providence with a requiem mass at St Ann’s Church and interment in St Ann’s cemetery. Floral tributes and spiritual bouquets expressed sincere condolences.
Acton-W. A. Flint, a longtime South Acton resident, celebrated his 83rd birthday Saturday on his road. Neighbors and relatives sent congratulations and well wishes.
The Concord Elks Lodge held a meeting at the hall on March 24 to name officers for the coming year. Elected were Exalted Ruler F Garrity Jr, Leading Knight D Be Wil Esteemed Loyal W Parke, Lecturing Knight R Manday, Chaplain C R Miller, Treasurer J H Dee, Tiler H A Martell, Trustees M Mee Walter, plus retiring B ruler and other posts.
Report from a Den Mothers meeting at Trinity Church Parsonage notes Leon J. Moreau as speaker and Cherie Andrew J. Raymond of the Cub Scouts and Lions Club as speakers. Attendance prize announced by Austin D. MacRae with future meeting set for April 14 under Harold Beharrell. Avis Spencer presided, June Hood led music, and a bond presentation occurred for a class project amid patriotic activities.
