Patriotic kinship tale of a cashiered official and a pathetically strained family
A fragmentary story recounts Robert Tyler Jones grandson of a president and the first male infant born in the White House attic living in hardship with an ailing wife and infant. His uncle John Tyler Jr once at the White House and a protected clerk sent half his salary monthly for six years to support the helpless relative. An 1880s shift under Harrison and a 1900s subsidy change led to his removal. The Southern Relief Society has taken up the case.
