Speakers for and against abrogating the primary took part as Chairman Morty spoke against. The committee elected a successor to Mr. William son with Judge Harry Kelley nominated by Mr. Stanton and Joe Creat by Mr. McGrew. The final vote mirrored the stand by the primary, leaving no bitterness among committee members. The assembly hall crowd, democratic across the state, showed overwhelming support for the primary.

In Freezing Virginia an aged man named William Kelly was baptized after initially wavering in belief. He joined the Primitive Baptist church two months earlier and the church finally proceeded with the rite, with the man later showing consent to receive baptism amid infirmity.
The article describes William Kelly, possibly the oldest man in Dickenson County, with age uncertain but near his hundredth year. He joined the Union Army in the Civil War and now lives with his son Harvey, who is past seventy. Reverend John C. Swindall performed a baptism in a stream using a chair as a baptismal device.
J. J. Reece, a farmer eight miles south of Bristol on the Holston river, reports finding a terrapin on his farm bearing the inscription fl. Ht. W., April 1888. The carving, partly effaced, was found in a meadow and may have been done by a member of the nearby Webb family.
