Standard Oil settles east Tennessee ad valorem taxes

The state and eastern Tennessee counties reached a settlement with Standard Oil to pay back ad valorem taxes for four years totaling about 160 000 in property, plus 15 percent revenue agent commissions and interest. The agreement ends litigation over taxes on oil held in tanks and depots across about twenty eastern counties and could raise overall state revenue by roughly 150 000 annually. The deal follows similarly settled taxes in west Tennessee with more actions pending in the middle division.
