Johnson City poised to be rail hub for Danville line
Danville and East Tennessee plan to build to Johnson City linking Norfolk and Danville with a line through Elizabethton and the Watauga river to the North Carolina line. The project, backed by Carter and Johnson counties, promises coal access, ore districts, and connections to multiple railroads, with surveys underway and construction possibly starting in 60 days. Local leaders and Bristol figures attend Embreeville interests, highlighting 20 foot grades and favorable geography for a trunk line.
Rapid Strides in Johnson City Water Works Charter
The Johnson City Water Works Company is chartered with eight incorporators led by W.8 Campbell and J. B. Crandall. It plans to bring water from Indian Creek via a three foot pipe nine miles away, 200 feet above the Public Square, to supply the city and attract factories. Work may begin in 60 or 10 days pending board approval.
