Johnson City Poised as Center of Southern Bessemer push
In a Johnson City letter to the Chattanooga Times the writer defends Southern iron making, disputing claims of poor Bessemer ore in the South. He cites Cranberry ore beds with 50,000,000 tons, low phosphorus and sulfur, and argues local furnaces and rail links will dominate steel production, projecting rapid Southern growth.
